Hello <<First Name>>,

Have you ever experienced how sometimes life seems to fly faster and faster?

That seems to be happening at the FeltHappiness household. I'm not sure where the week went. Can I say that I spent seven days baking this crepe cake for my graduating 11th grader? {Not really, although it did take all morning!}

Or what about my newly painted purple arbor? While it's neither felt nor hats, how colorful paint can transform a space is magical! You can just see one of the two purple containers that will hopefully have want-to-be vine seedlings popping out. Can you feel the excitement?!

If you missed this Sculptural Pod from last week's Newsletter, you can read about it over on the blog or watch a video with it over on Instagram.

Starting to shape

In my early felting days, I made several watermelon-inspired items - mainly berets and tiny purses.

Recently, I decided to make a hat using a different approach -  Russian feltmaker, Iryna Spasskaya's method, which I learned via this class

Like myself, Iryna mainly drapes her hats, instead of blocking them like traditional milliners. However, I wanted this hat to be more like a triangle of melon! So, it was DIY time with cardboard and tape. Surprisingly, it works well enough.

The last photo is still an in-process pic. There is lots more shaping needed. But so far, so good! The brim will be somewhat reminiscent of this Sunflower Cloche.

Hopefully, I will be able to share my completed Watermelon Sunshine with you next week!

With thanks and appreciation,
