WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING?
WELCOME BAILEY!
Welcome to one of our two new Youth Board Reps- Bailey Ives. Bailey is a young parent studying at Murihiku Young Parents Learning Centre who is interested in youth justice, specifically restorative justice. She thinks it is very important that the voice of rangatahi is heard in this space. She is developing a career in helping and guiding people in the community at Nga Kete Matauranga Pounamu Trust.
We are delighted to have Bailey on board the Board, and look forward to her contributions to Number 10!
NEW ART WORK!
If you've driven past Number 10 lately you may have noticed that our final shelter has been painted!  The Creative Arts Group have been working with long-time Number 10 Volunteer Tulaga Aiopulotea to create an awesome art piece that ties in beautifully with the other three!
AGM 2021
Due to changing covid alert levels we were unable to hold our AGM as planned on Wednesday the 1st of September.  We will be holding it in some form or another- as soon as we have decided, we will announce it on our website and social media channels.
INVOLVE CONFERENCE 2021

From the 9th-11th August the Social Services MAG team headed to Wellington for the National Youth Health and Development Conference Involve 2021. Involve is the biggest event in the youth sectors calendar and is run by four organisations from the wider health and development sector: Ara Taiohi, NZ Youth Mentoring Network, SYHPANZ & The Collaborative Trust. Whilst the four organisations remain the same for each conference, the theme, location and managing team changes which means that no two Involves are the same.

This year’s Involve theme was Our Waka, New Seas and it did not disappoint; we all had a fun time! Some of the highlights included several keynote speakers such as Dame Sue Bagshaw, Dr Terryann Clark and Ihorangi Rewiti- Peters. Some of the breakout session topics covered were program design and delivery, mental health & wellbeing, youth voice, youth participation, power, and ethics & cultural identity.  We were all super grateful to be able to attend this conference and are looking forward to putting some of the ideas and new learnings into practice with the team at Number 10.

GROUP PROGRAMMES
E14E Term 3
This term E14E have had new people join the group, where friend ships have formed and connections have been made. We have had creative sessions, allowing the space for the young people to have fun and share their skills. E14E have also participated in the "all about me" survey - sharing their voices to the government. The group have been able to stay connected over the lock-down period with the E14E Zoom running each Thursday.
HINE MAIA
On the 19th-23rd July we ran our annual Hine Maia Programme.  This year it was a 5-day camp at Omaui. The objective of the programme is to enable youth the opportunity to explore culture and their identity and provide a safe space to explore, develop and enhance their ideas & values promoting their Taha Tinana (Physical), Taha Hinengaro (Mental & Emotional), Taha Wairua (Spirtuality), Taha Whanau (Family). Some of the highlights for the young people included "Moana make way" which was a session run by Nadine Young & Ra Dallas from Nga Kete. Other highlights included making new friends, learning about where I am from, The Kmart Challenge and having fun around the campfire and going to the beach.

THANK YOU!
BIKE DONATION
Number 10 were thrilled to get a phone call from Idea Services last month- offering us 5 refurbished bikes to keep!  The Youth Coaches are looking forward to getting together with clients and being active in the beautiful Invercargill spring!
HELL'S PIZZA- THANK YOU!
Number 10 are participating in the nation-wide 'What about Me' survey.  The survey is being done to tell the Government, other agencies and researchers what it is like to be a young person in Aotearoa.  To incentivize young people, we approached Hell's Pizza Dee Street, and asked if they would be able to donate us some product that we could offer to participants- and they gave us 10 free pizza vouchers!  Sadly, lockdown happened almost immediately after that, but the offer will be available to young people as soon as we can safely do it.
