Chateau Leoville Poyferre 2015
Ex-Cellars
Perfect Provenance for a
Great Vintage of a
Great Wine

Big, Bad Bordeaux?
We at Courtier rarely venture into the Bordeaux market, it is way too crowded for old heads like us these days, with far too many big players pushing wines around like chips on a Las Vegas poker table. There's no romance, no affection, and just too little excitement for us to engage the energy.
However, that's not to say we do not love and respect Bordeaux, far from it. The sheer scale of the region and that commercial imperative ensures that there is always good value to be had from Bordeaux at some level of the price range or other, and the best wines that still respect and reflect their terroir are timeless treasures that reward the cellar-time they deserve. So, while we are often sidelined spectators, we are always on the hunt and have good connections there. They know to set us up when the right opportunity arises.

Opportunity Knocks
We have been working with a small but highly respected negociant for a number of years, who understands our business and whose size matches our own. We have found a common niche that utilizes their ability to acquire small allocations of ex-chateau, late releases at very reasonable premiums.
We have one such offer today.

Ex-Chateau - A Coveted Reassurance
'Ex-Chateau' or 'Ex-cellars' is the term used to describe stock released directly by the producer. It is usually reserved to denote late releases and acts as an extra degree of assurance of perfect provenance and integrity, compared with bottles that have been out in the market for some time.
Ex-Chateau always commands a premium but its value is in the eye of the beholder. It depends on your comfort and confidence in buying stock that someone else has looked after for some time. We also buy and sell such wines with confidence but there is something extra and special associated with Ex-Chateau, particularly if the premium is small or negligible as it is in this case.

These 2015 vintage bottles have been stored at the Chateau and released to us through our negociant this year. They will be imported by refrigerated sea freight to our temperature-controlled warehouse in Richmond, California, for distribution in the late Spring of this year.

2015 - An Outstanding Vintage
A significant appeal of this offer is the chance to revisit or back-fill your cellar with a top-flight classed growth from this outstanding vintage. 2015 is up there with the best of the recent string of exceptional years and is worthy of any amount of cellaring you are prepared to give it!

Barely Any Premium
At $125 per 750ml, our price is just a few dollars above the very cheapest Winesearcher listings for existing stock anywhere in the US, and less than 10% above the 'clearing market price' that anyone searching for this wine should be happy to pay.
We think that small premium is nothing compared with the assurance of these precious bottles being under lock and key for the five or more years since the 2015's were generally released.

97 points Antonio Galloni, Vinous:"The 2015 Léoville-Poyferré is spectacular. Inky, dense and explosive, the 2015 possesses off the chart richness, with soft contours, no hard edges and exceptional balance. All the elements are simply fused together. inky blue/purplish fruit, chocolate, new leather, blueberry jam, exotic spice and violet notes are all beautifully delineated throughout. Fresh, vibrant and totally sexy, Léoville-Poyferré is one of the wines of the vintage. Don't miss it! Tasted two times. (Drink between 2025-2045)"
