Albert Boxler New 2020 Releases
And Selected Back-Vintages

No domaine in Alsace makes better Rieslings than Albert Boxler. Maybe as good, but not better.

Domaine Albert Boxler produces some of the finest wines in Alsace, an often overlooked but exciting region. Jean Boxler is at the helm and, with over 25 years of first-class winemaking under his belt, is creating white wines which inspire a cult-like following and are increasingly hard to get hold of. Since his arrival in the family domain, he has produced 20 vintages, and has evolved his methods to now be vinifying at the same level as Alsace’s elite. The vines are splendidly located in Sommerberg, where Jean possesses a large plot, and also in Brand, two terroirs that shine with Riesling, the region’s finest grape variety. The viticulture is rigorous and careful, with élevages adapted to each wine and each vintage.

The wines from Boxler shine due to their finesse, purity, complexity and … all the other things that characterize great wines. Even better, since Jean Boxler manages to obtain mature fruit in the cooler years as well as to maintain firm acidity the warmer vintages, a Boxler wine will never ever let you down.

Sommerberg - $63 for 2018, 2019, 2020 vintages

Sommerberg is the steep 19 hectare grand cru hillside that rises up behind the village of Niedermorschwihr, where the Boxler cellar is located. Indeed, Sommerberg is synonymous with Boxler, and this wine is the most famous and celebrated iteration of the vineyard. It typically has drive and tension, and this 2020 is a superb iteration. It is floral, tight, and agile, with a deliciously long finish. The nose has an ethereal jasmine scent. This is a Riesling to hold onto for a few years and enjoy as it gains in stature with age.

Sommerberg E - $73 for 2018, 2019, 2020 vintages

Eckberg "E" is located on the upper steep granite slope of the vineyard. The Eckberg parcel is vinified separately by Boxler in exceptional years. Powerful and concentrated. Look no further - you have reached Riesling nirvana.

Sommerberg D - $73 for 2018, 2019, 2020 vintages

Dudenstein "D" is located on the deeper limestone section of the granite terroir with vines planted between 1946 and 1953. Grapes are hand-harvested and vinified in foudre, leading to an insanely textured and mineral-driven wine. Structured, food-friendly, and super refreshing.

Brand - $63 for 2018, 2019, 2020 vintages

Brand is one of the great Alsace grand cru sites. In Jean Boxler’s hands, this famous granite site does not disappoint. Compared to its cellar neighbors, it is usually the most forward and approachable of the grands crus. The 2020 has a heightened minerality, with tension on the nose, and enticing orange blossom notes. The palate bursts with fresh clementine juice and a sumptuous weight. Perfectly balanced, and capable of reaching a fine old age.
