Lucien et Andre Brunel - 'Les Cailloux'
'Cuvee des Centenaires' Chateaunefuf de Pape 2010
This is one of the finest and most impressive Chateauneuf du Papes made. It is a true classic. The Cuvee Centenaire, from 100+ year old vines, has only been produced in a handful of vntages. The 2010 is 94% Grenache and 6% Mourvedre. The vines are adjacent to Chateau Rayas, they produce one of the finest examples of Grenache (based wine) made on the planet,

"Even better and a monumental wine in the making, the profound 2010 Les Cailloux Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Centenaire (tasted just prior to bottling) smells of a Provencal street market and offers up gorgeous aromas kirsch, raspberry, dried flowers, spice-box, roasted meats, and licorice on the nose. Coming from a single plot of very old Grenache (there is a touch of Mourvedre in the blend) and aged all in tank, this exuberant, hedonistic-bent Châteauneuf-du-Pape is full-bodied on the palate and delivers a voluptuous, mouth filling texture, brilliant concentration, and a blockbuster finish. Eclipsing the ’07 and up there with the ’90 (I think even better), this is monumental stuff that every Châteauneuf-du-Pape lover needs to have in the cellar!"

Michel Lafarge - The Grand-Master of Volnay
Domaine Lafarge is incomparable. While Volnay is replete with old aristocracy, Lafarge represents the artisan and the craftsman. The name Lafarge is synonomous with tradition and adherence to the classical stye. There is no more important domaine on the Cote de Beaune. These wines are made in miniscule quantities and the top crus, in particular, are very rare.
Volnay 'Clos des Chenes' 1er Cru 2018 - $225
2 bottles available
94-96+ points - Wine Advocate "The brilliant 2018 Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes offers up an incipiently complex bouquet of dark berry fruit, orange rind, plums, woodsmoke, dark chocolate and rich soil tones. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, reserved and muscular, with excellent depth and concentration, structured around an ample endowment of powdery tannin and succulent acids. The finish is long and nicely defined. As is almost invariably the case, this is a serious wine for the long haul, and it numbers among the wines of the vintage in the Côte de Beaune." - William Kelley

93-95 points - Vinous Media "The 2018 Volnay Les Mitans 1er Cru has an absolutely glorious bouquet of perfumed black cherries, blueberry, potpourri and light violet aromas that are understated and yet focused and delineated. The palate is medium-bodied with a precise opening, and very harmonious and sensual. Pure, mineral-driven red fruit defines the effortless finish. Stunning. (Drink between 2022-2045)" - Neal Martin
Volnay 'Pitures' 1er Cru 2018 - $295 per magnum
3 magnums available
92-94 points - Vinous Media "The 2018 Volnay Les Pitures 1er Cru, which is only bottled in magnums, has wonderful detail and precision on a nose of black cherries and hints of cassis mixed with incense and iris petals. The medium-bodied palate delivers supple tannins. Fleshy and generous, with a gentle grip on the linear and slightly meaty finish. Superb. (Drink between 2022-2045)" - Neal Martin
Beaune 'Clos des Aigrots' 1er Cru Rouge 2018 - $79
10 bottles available
92-94 points - Wine Advocate "The 2018 Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Aigrots is one of the highlights of the portfolio this year, wafting from the glass with a deep bouquet of cassis, plums, dark chocolate and rich soil tones. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with terrific depth at the core, largely concealed tannins, succulent acids and a long finish." - William Kelley
Volnay 'Selectionees' 2018 - $69
12 bottles available
90-92+ points - Wine Advocate "The 2018 Volnay Vendanges Sélectionées is a stunning communal bottling in the making, wafting from the glass with aromas of cassis, cherries, sweet soil tones, raw cocoa and candied citrus peel. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, layered and concentrated, with powdery tannins, lively acids and a long, mineral finish. This will be well worth seeking out." - William Kelley
Beaune 'Clos des Aigrots' 1er Cru Blanc 2018 - $79
6 bottles available
93 points - John Gilman "The 2018 Clos des Aigrots Blanc is another terrific young white wine from the Lafarge family. The bouquet reveals an aromatic constellation of apple, tangerine, a complex base of chalky minerality, white lilies, gentle notes of new oak and a topnote of citrus peel. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied and quite youthful in personality, with lovely mid-palate depth, fine focus and grip and a very long, vibrant and racy finish. This is going to be a stellar example of the vintage, but it will need a bit of bottle age to really start hitting on all cylinders. (Drink between 2025-2055)"
And from the cellar:
Volnay 'Clos des Ducs' 1er Cru 2013 - $250
2 bottles available
93 points - John Gilman "The 2013 Clos du Château des Ducs from Domaine Lafarge is an outstanding young wine. The nose is pure, red fruity and quite refined, delivering a constellation of cherries, red berries, a touch of currant, gamebird, lovely minerality, mustard seed and just a whisper of vanillin oak. On the palate the wine is pure, full-bodied, focused and beautifully balanced, with a good core of red fruit, lovely soil signature and a long, suavely tannic and vibrant finish. All that is required here is a bit more patience. (Drink between 2025-2065)"
Volnay 'Caillerets' 1er Cru 2009 - $250
3 bottles available
93-96 points - Wine Advocate "The 2009 Volnay Les Caillerets is a rather dark, imposing wine in this lineup. Here the aromatics are a touch subdued, but what impresses is the authoritative, masculine personality. There is more than enough sheer extract to balance the firm tannins on the incisive finish. This looks to be one of the wines that will require the most patience. Anticipated maturity: 2021-2039." - Antonio Galloni
Christian Moreau - Archetypal Chablis at the Right Price
As ever, Moreau offers wines of excellent typicity and expression of their terroir at an old-fashioned price. Indeed, they are helped by our particularly strong pricing of this parcel, beating the US Winesearcher listings by about $20 a bottle!
Chablis 'Les Clos' Grand Cru 2018 - $79
21 bottles available
93 points - Burghound "There is very good Chablis typicity to the overtly floral nose that offers up notes of mineral reduction, white peach and sea breeze that are trimmed in softly exotic nuances. The sleek, intense and delicious larger-scaled flavors possess fine underlying tension, all wrapped in a succulent, palate coating, dry, refined and powerful finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. This is a relatively fleshy rendition of Les Clos but no less attractive for it."
Chablis 'Vaudesir' Grand Cru 2018 - $75
3 bottles available
94 points - Vinous Media "The 2018 Chablis Vaudésir Grand Cru has a wonderful bouquet of crushed stone, white peach, mirabelle and light sea spray notes. The palate is very well balanced, with a crisp line of acidity, and quite saline in the mouth, leading to a penetrating and certainly very persistent finish. Superb. (Drink between 2024-2045)" - Neal Martin
Chablis 'Valmur' Grand Cru 2018 - $69
3 bottles available
93 points - Vinous Media "The 2018 Chablis Valmur Grand Cru is matured 50% in barrel and the rest in tank, with just a small percentage of new wood. It has a fresh bouquet that is beautifully defined, hints of jasmine and white flowers, crushed stone and peony developing with time. The palate is very well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, and slightly waxy in texture. A discreet grilled walnut note develops toward the finish. A complex Valmur, this, and reassuringly persistent on the aftertaste. (Drink between 2024-2040)" - Neal Martin
Chablis 'Blanchots' Grand Cru 2015 - $69
3 bottles available
92 points - Vinous Media "Bright light-medium yellow. Reticent nose hints at lemon peel and yeasty bread. Then much more expressive on the palate, showing surprising acid lift to its stone fruit and crystallized lemon peel flavors. Finishes firm-edged but not dry. There were just 1-1/2 barrels of this juice due to hail losses but the wine does not come across as oaky. The Moreaus harvested this parcel first after the hailstorm. (Drink between 2020-2026)" - Steve Tanzer
