Albert Boxler Riesling Grand Cru
2018 Sommerberg 'E'
$75 per bottle
96 points The Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Riesling Grand Cru Sommerberg Eckberg is quite similar in the nose to the 2020, showing an intense and concentrated, layered bouquet of crushed stones with ripe lemons and phenols. Rich yet vital and pure on the palate, the 2018 reveals stunningly vivacious acidity combined with a long, saline and grippy finish that is still wonderfully biting and stimulatingly bitter. This is a great wine for sure; it just needs another 3–5 years to shine brilliantly. About 14% alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2022." - Stephan Reinhardt
2019 Sommerberg 'E'
$75 per bottle
95+ points The Wine Advocate: "The intensely yellow-colored 2019 Riesling Grand Cru Sommerberg Eckberg opens with an intense, complex and very elegant bouquet of exceptional depth and finesse. Beautiful crystalline stone and citrus aromas lead to a rich and elegant, vibrantly fresh palate with remarkable, finely racy salty-piquant acidity and lush, generous fruit that immediately intermingles with the acidity and mineral grip that leads to a long and intense finish. Still young, this is a long-distance runner that I would start drinking in about 8 to 10 years. 14% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2022." - Stephan Reinhardt
2020 Sommerberg 'E'
$75 per bottle
95+ points The Wine Advocate: "From vines about 50 years old at 400 meters above sea level, the 2020 Riesling Grand Cru Sommerberg Eckberg shows a deep and intense, lemon-scented bouquet with notes of crushed stones (smoke), phenols, iodine and minerals. On the palate, this is an intense, rich and fine but tightly structured Sommerberg Riesling with lots of grip and self-confident tannins giving this powerful wine its frame or spine. The 2020 is textured, lush and salty and provided with firm mineral acidity and stimulating lemon bitters, but it needs a year or four to unfold its true finesse and start singing." - Stephan Reinhardt
2018 Sommerberg 'D'
$75 per bottle
97 points The Wine Advocate: "The 2018 Riesling Grand Cru Sommerberg Dudenstein opens very pure, fresh and airy yet intense on the nose, like lemon perfume on crushed flint stones and quartzite. The ripeness is just right. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich and elegant, perfectly lush yet refreshingly crystalline and salty Dudenstein with a long and intense, lush and stimulating finish. This is a great Riesling from one of the steepest vineyards in Alsace and one of the warmest vintages. It's amazing that you don't get extremes, but that's due to the refreshing balance of the Dudenstein. About 14% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2022." - Stephan Reinhardt
2019 Sommerberg 'D'
$75 per bottle
96+ points The Wine Advocate: "The 2019 Riesling Grand Cru Sommerberg Dudenstein has an intense lemon color and opens with a deep, intense and granitic, highly complex bouquet of perfectly ripe and lush lemon fruits with iodine notes. On the palate, this is an elegant, rather classic, very salty, crystalline and terroir-driven Riesling that is compact and still edgy but also rich and shows a very long, intense and powerful, endlessly saline finish. This is another long-distance runner that will benefit from further bottle age. 13.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2022." - Stephan Reinhardt
2020 Sommerberg 'D'
$75 per bottle
96 points The Wine Advocate: "The 2020 Riesling Grand Cru Sommerberg Dudenstein is another adorable wine from Jean Boxler. From about 70- 80-year-old vines on deeper, marlier soils with a granite layer, the 2020 shows a coolish, clear and refined bouquet of crushed stones, iodine and delicate citrus notes. On the palate, this is a vivacious, even nervous, vibrantly fresh and mineral Sonnenberg with bright and fresh Riesling fruit and a leaner, more vertical structure compared to Vanne and Eckberg. The Dudenstein is less powerful and rich compared to its brothers, but it's a classic, stimulating and refreshing Riesling with great aging potential. This is about 14% alcohol, which we do not taste or feel. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in April 2022." - Stephan Reinhardt
