Virtual Community Circles: there's room for you!

Tuesday, March 15th from 4:45 to 6:00 pm EST

You are welcome to join us for this month's Virtual Community Circle. Come  for guided personal mindfulness practice, support in teaching Peace of Mind, and nurturing time in a welcoming community.  Peace educators and mindfulness and cross-cultural facilitators Dave Trachtenberg and Jelena Popovic facilitate our sessions.

After a full day, it was hard to show up for one more zoom meeting, but it was so worth it and I felt so much better in my heart, mind and soul. I'm feeling very grateful.

The Peace of Mind Community gathers twice a year to talk about issues of current concern and interest.  On April 7, please join Peace of Mind founder and peace teacher Linda Ryden and third grade teacher and social justice educator Syreetta McArthur for a conversation about why and how we teach about social justice in elementary school.  We'll dive into: 

  • How mindfulness supports social justice lessons
  • What this looks like in the classroom
  • What's included in a Peace of Mind social justice lesson for grades 3-5
  • Helpful ways to talk about this work with others

Calling all DC Public School and Public Charter School Educators: Free Peace of Mind "Mini-PDs"! 


The DC Office of the State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), in partnership with Peace of Mind, is hosting a series of 1-hour "Mini-PD" sessions this spring relevant to teaching the Peace of Mind Curriculum in your classroom or school.  Feel free to share this opportunity with DCPS or DCPCS pre-K-8 colleagues who are teaching Peace of Mind or preparing to in the future.

Heartfulness is a compassion practice we come back to again and again, especially when we are feeling sad, uncertain, or worried about others.  We hope it helps you too!

Mindful Educators: Join COSEM's Commit to 1% Campaign!


In honor of SEL Day on March 11th, we're excited to be joining COSEM, Inner Explorer and MoveMindfully to unite like-minded educators to prioritize well-being in schools!   

COSEM's collaborative Commit to 1% Challenge encourages educators and schools to commit to practicing mindfulness-based SEL with students for 10 minutes each day. Submit a video about how you are doing this in your school or classroom and enter to win $1000 to support your efforts!

WHAT'S NEW IN THE SHOP

The Peace of Mind shop has a new look - and 2 tips for next year.


Our shop has had a makeover!  We hope it's even easier to find what you need, just in time for updating your resources for next year.  Two tips: 
  • There is a new edition of the Core Curriculum for Grades 1-2 available that includes more lessons on gratitude practice, movement and pair work to help children respond to the social and emotional challenges of this year.  Time for an update?
  • If you are still using the Peace of Mind Core Curriculum for Grades 3-5, consider investing in our new Core Curriculum for Grade 3, developed with your third graders' current needs in mind.

We are so grateful to...

  • All of you who contributed last month to the Donor's Choose funds of Ms. Simonetti-Benson and Ms. Yorkus in Philadelphia - they met their goals to raise funds to feed their students! Yes!
