Donate to 4Cs today! A little goes A LONG WAY!

4Cs had the opportunity to participate in two wonderful community events recently. On April 23rd, 4Cs joined Rebuilding Together and dozens of volunteers to help make significant improvements to a family child care home in East Palo Alto. At the home of one of our Quality Counts participants, we painted inside and out, renovated the entire backyard environment including play structures, and enhanced an indoor play space. The family child care provider was thrilled with the support and the results, and the children *love* their renovated environment.
On May 4, 4Cs’ newly formed Parent Voices chapter joined 600+ others at the State Capitol for Stand for Children Day. One of our own members addressed the crowd and spoke movingly about the need for a system that better supports families and the importance of making sure every child has the opportunity to be provided high quality early care and education.
As much as we do in the office, it is so inspiring to join others locally and state-wide, who are committed to bringing about the changes needed to truly support San Mateo County’s families and children.

In partnership,
David Fleishman
Executive Director

What’s The Relationship Between Infant/Toddler Development and School Readiness?

Horm (2016) summarizes research about development during the first three years in order to highlight areas that are foundational for later school readiness and success. This information can be used as a guide by programs to inform their practices and policies and to help programs think about their own theories of change or strategies for continuous improvement and what outcomes they are most focused on improving for young children.
Lively Minds: Distinctions between Academic versus Intellectual Goals for Young Children by Lilian G. Katz, PhD

Academic goals are those concerned with the mastery of small discrete elements of embodied information, usually related to pre-literacy skills in the early years, and practiced in drills, worksheets, and other kinds of exercises designed to prepare children for the next levels of literacy and numeracy learning. Intellectual goals and their related activities, on the other hand, are those that address the life of the mind in its fullest sense... including a range of aesthetic and moral sensibilities.

California Child Care Licensing Resources for Parents and Families

The Child Care Licensing Program is pleased to announce the soft launch of our new
e-learning modules!  These online modules were accomplished as a result of the Federal Race to the Top-Early Learning Challenge Grant.  It is our vision that these e-Learning modules will serve to educate child care providers on how to ensure compliance with licensing laws and regulations, provide technical assistance to child care providers and consumers related to health and safety of children, and provide the public and licensing staff with resources and information related to child care licensing.

How are Community Care Licensing regulations and requirements put into practice? Watch these brief, informative videos and learn how you can contribute to the health and safety of children in child care facilities.

In California certain providers of child care are not legally required to be licensed. Learn the difference between licensed and license-exempt care.
