Highlighting Our Community

The District 5 Denver Police Department has 5 new officers on staff! Get to know them below!

   Officer Bartholomew              Officer Brings

      Officer Funari                     Officer Rivers

                          Officer Vanpelt

Welcome! We are excited to have these officers on the District 5 Police team and look forward to working with them! Please see their biographies below to learn more about the officers serving our neighborhoods!

Curtis Bartholomew
From: Columbus, Ohio
I chose to become a Denver Police officer because I knew every day would bring a new and interesting challenge. One challenge I look forward to is continuing the work to improve public perception in the community.

Amanda Brings
From: Golden, Colorado
Knowing agencies from across the country come here to be trained by the Denver Police Department gave me confidence that I would be trained by the best to be the very best I could be. I am happy to be assigned to District 5 because the area is growing so fast. I also love the diversity and sense of community Northfield/Stapleton, Montbello, and Green Valley Ranch have.

Matthew Funari
From: Colorado
As a native to Colorado and former member of the US Army, I was eager for an opportunity to give back to my home state. I chose to become a Denver Police officer because I knew this department would provide me the greatest number of opportunities to be of service to my community.

Brett Rivers
From: Denver, Colorado
Being raised in northeast Denver helped shape who I am today and a positive interaction with a police officer during that time left an indelible impression as well. His actions made me appreciate law enforcement and their contributions to our community. I am honored to be a Denver Police officer who can positively impact others and I look forward to building strong relationships in our community.

Matthew Van Pelt
From: Ringoes, NJ
Why Denver Police Department:
I chose to join the Denver Police Department because of the many opportunities to be of service. I love the Denver scenery as well, but am sold on our views of the mountains. I chose District 5 specifically because I appreciate the growing community and its diversity.

Exciting Community News!

61st and Pena Station Underway

Peña Station is strategically adjacent to Denver International Airport. With an emphasis on sustainable development of hotels, retail, multi-family, entertainment, healthcare and office, this master-planned, covenant-controlled, mixed-use park is bordered on the north and west by permanent open space. The 400 acre Peña Station with 800-space shared parking offers sites for all types of uses and welcomes the opportunity to work with you if you are interested in becoming part of our community.

Peña Station is a true transit oriented development. Located on the airport rail line that connects Downtown Denver via Union Station to the airport, the development is within 5 minutes of Denver International Airport and 20 of downtown Denver. The RTD commuter rail will make regular stops at the station up to one every 15 minutes during peak hours.

The anchor tenant is the North American Headquarters for Panasonic Enterprise Solutions Company. The Panasonic facility will feature an Innovation Lab that include airport applications of technology. The facility is under construction, along with the infrastructure to service their building, the station and the community.

Denver Facts - Did You Know?
Street sweeping began Friday, April 1st!

Did you know you can receive a reminder about your street sweeping day?

Want a street sweeping reminder?
Residents can now sign up for street sweeping reminders through pocketgov, the City’s newest mobile web application.

Pocketgov provides user-friendly access to city services via mobile device or a home computer. After creating a simple user profile, residents can receive both email and text notifications.

Request “No Parking” sticker reminders for your calendar by calling Denver’s customer service line at 3-1-1.

Don't get a parking citation!
Residents are advised to pay attention to the red and white signs posted on their block for street sweeping parking restrictions, so please be sure to move your vehicle according to the signs on your block to avoid a $50.00 parking citation.

Why do we have street sweeping?
Street sweeping plays a critical role in keeping Denver’s streets, air and water clean. Denver Public Works’ Street Sweeping Program removes dirt, leaves and debris from city streets, which reduces air and water pollution and supports a clean environment. Last year, Denver street sweeping crews swept 113,019 lane miles of Denver streets and collected 50,924 cubic yards of dirt and debris.

Improve your child's literacy through simple daily activities!

TALK
When your child starts to make noises, treat it like a real conversation and mimic the sounds right back. See how many times you can go back and forth!

By following your child’s lead and responding, you’re sparking the connections he/she needs for language and communication later on.

WRITE
Give your child a chance to explore textures when you’re putting away laundry. Before you fold, pass them to your child first and ask him/her how each feels. Is it soft, rough, thin, heavy? What else feels that way?

This game helps your child “think like a detective” because he/she is using his/her senses (including touch) to understand the world around him/her.

SING
Sing a line from your child's favorite song and then pause. Can he/she sing the next few words? Take turns back and forth and clap to the beat.

By helping your child pay attention to the words of songs and the beat, you are helping him/her learn to listen carefully.

PLAY
Play a silly game together in the mirror. Ask your child to make a funny face and then imitate him/her.

Paying attention helps him/her concentrate and focus – important skills when it comes to learning and solving problems.
