Nature walk in State Natural Area November 16

Join Friends of Sonoita Creek leaders for a loop hike along the Black Hawk and Sonoita Creek trails in the Sonoita Creek State Natural Area adjacent to Patagonia Lake State Park where you will learn some natural history of the area. The hike is approximately 3 miles long and is moderately difficult due to rocky, uneven surfaces in some areas and a short but steep ascent out.

Participants should meet at the Patagonia Museum/BRN parking area, 100 School St, for participants in the Patagonia area.  If traveling from points south or west, arrangements can be made to meet at the mailboxes on Lake Patagonia Rd. (The Park has waived the usual entrance fee for this event).

Bring sturdy walking shoes or hiking boots, hiking poles if you normally use them, hat, sunscreen, water, snacks, and binoculars if you have them.

Pre-registration is required by emailing info@borderlandsrestoration.org with a maximum of 13 participants. Let us know if you will be meeting in Patagonia or need directions to the Lake Patagonia Rd meeting point.

The event is sponsored by Friends, Borderlands Restoration Network and The Arizona Native Plant Society

New blue and green caps now available

New blue and greencaps will be available this weekend at our booth.   1) If you have never had one, you should have one.  It is a great cap and it advertises our group, 2) if yours is beginning to look worn, you need a new one, 3) if you want a different color, here is your opportunity. 3) Give one as a gift.  Donations for the cap are $15.

FOSC joins Tucson Audubon and Borderlands in applying for watershed grant

We are nearing the deadline for submission of a WaterSMART Cooperative Watershed Management Program Phase I Grant with Tucson Audubon and Borderlands Habitat Network.  Should we receive this Phase I grant we will be working with other organizations and planning projects and activities that will preserve and improve the state of the Sonoita Creek Watershed.  Howard Buchanan of Tucson Audubon is the lead person for Friends and for the grant.
