We Want Your Input! Help Update the USGCRP Strategic Plan
The U.S. Global Change Research Program is three years into the implementation of our ten-year Strategic Plan. USGCRP has prepared a draft update to the Strategic Plan highlighting progress made and current challenges. The draft is now available for review and public comment at review.globalchange.gov. Comments are due January 30th, 2016.
Sustained Assessment Update
Last week, the U.S. Department of Agriculture released a scientific assessment entitled Climate Change, Global Food Security, and the U.S. Food System, which identifies climate change impacts on global food security (the ability to obtain and use sufficient amounts of safe and nutritious food) and the challenges facing farmers and consumers in adapting to changing climate conditions. The report was prepared as a contribution to the National Climate Assessment. Other reports underway that will contribute to the sustained assessment process include a Climate and Health Assessment and a special report on physical climate science to support the Fourth National Climate Assessment.
Updates from the U.S. Carbon Cycle Science Program
Integrating carbon cycle research into decision-making processes: New technologies, research and monitoring networks, and theoretical approaches to understanding the dynamics of multiple greenhouse gases will facilitate the use of North American carbon cycle science in decision making within and across jurisdictional and geopolitical boundaries. This and other findings from the 5th Biennial Meeting of the North American Carbon Program (NACP) Principal Investigators (PIM5) are highlighted in a recent paper published in Eos.
Carbon Cycle Workshops: Preliminary announcements for Carbon Cycle Interagency Working Group-sponsored workshops on coastal/blue carbon, carbon cycle predictions, International Year of Soils and Carbon Observing Systems are posted on http://carboncyclescience.us/news.
