We must thank our hard working Nominations CommitteeTrisha Carter, Elizabeth DouetRyan Haynes and Louise Wiles for recruiting, interviewing, and nominating such an incredible team!

We must also thank our wonderful membership. This was a record-breaking year for applications and each of the candidates brought so much competence to the table. It is a testament to the caliber and passion of our members that the Nominations Committee had an amazing list of candidates to select from, and they had some tough choices to make!

Thank you, and we hope to see your continued support in all our endeavors.

-- Maryam Afnan Ahmad, Nominations Committee Chair

A farewell note from Kilian Kröll

Dear FIGT Members,
September marks the final month of my five-year service on the Board of Directors. As I reflect on this personally significant moment, I am humbled by FIGT's heart-centered, intellectually engaged and professionally diverse community. I came to FIGT in 2011 unsure whether there would be a place for me "at the table," and I'm departing from my official duties with a sense of awe about the inclusion with which this organization strives to embrace all those living a globally mobile life.
Much has changed in the past five years. FIGT launched its membership and affiliate programs; made great improvements to the conference, sponsorship and scholarship offerings; created a sustained and engaging online presence; professionalized the board recruitment process; attained financial stability; and significantly increased its global reach. I have been so fortunate to learn from the founders and visionaries of the Indianapolis, Houston and Washington conferences -- and then to collaborate directly with the smart, creative and dedicated board and committee members, conference presenters and attendees in recent years. In my role as Board President, I often received credit for work done by others. At this point, I must come clean and truly thank everyone who has contributed to FIGT's continuing success.
Living up to our name, Families In Global Transition is always, in fact, in transition. This is a good thing. For me, every year of service was different than the one before. I've come to know FIGT as nimble, current, and open to taking on new challenges. One of my proudest achievements during my tenure was last year's relocation to the Netherlands -- our first conference outside the United States in the organization's 18-year history.
It is difficult to "historicize" my moment of departure from the board and claim that it's the End of an Era. We're already well into planning for the future, embedded in a consistent tide of positive change. The organization is positioned to do great things in the next few years, and I am thrilled to hand off the leadership to an outstanding group of emerging masterminds.
As we know from the people we serve, a departure does not mean good-bye forever -- in fact, I look forward to seeing you (in my new role as an attendee!) at FIGT17.
Thank you for the trust you have placed in my leadership.
-- Kilian Kröll - Outgoing Board President

In the run-up to the 2017 Conference, we have begun a series: The Five Benefits of the FIGT Network.
In late August and early September we posted three of the five:
Benefit 1: Speak at our Conference
Benefit 2: Scholarships available for our Conference
Benefit 3: Access to a writing scholarship

And in the Wisdom from our Members section, Virginie Raguenaud shared insights from her past FIGT Webinar on 10 steps to keep our children bilingual.
