Bookstore submissions are open!

One of the major attractions of the Annual FIGT Conference is the bookstore. The bookstore offers an excellent opportunity to browse and purchase some of the most respected works on cross-cultural and global living as well as socialize and network with fellow attendees.
Visiting the bookstore during the author signing timeslots is a fantastic chance to meet the authors, share experiences, and find resources that meet your needs as a global citizen.
If you are interested in selling your book at the FIGT17 bookstore, you must apply by March 6, 2017.

What led me to take the role of Program Chair

Many years ago when we accepted the first assignment as expats to Europe, I was forced to investigate. As a clinical psychologist I was eager to learn as much as possible about transitioning from the perspective of a professional nomad. I experienced  immigration through my own life story, and learned about it reading professional literature, but the expat world was new to me. So I started looking, and found out that there is not too much research, it’s a young field. What I found was the book “Third Culture Kids, growing up among worlds” It was a treasure that led me to follow FIGT.
Attending the conference in Amsterdam last year was a journey. It was almost overwhelming, so many interesting people, so much knowledge and experience; it was exciting. Ruth Van Reken was one of the keynotes speakers, sharing with us the history of FIGT and her passion to encourage dreamers to fulfill their dreams. It was a moment of clarity for me, I found a treasure, and it had to be shared. The ones that were somehow missing in that kitchen table were the non-native English speakers. There are so many nomads that are too intimidated by the English language and as a result hold on to their local communities abroad. They are missing the world of accumulated wisdom and the opportunity to share their stories.
I applied to be Program Chair of FIGT with the aspiration to include many more diverse voices, with a mission to keep growing the organization globally, and with a passion to share what FIGT has in many languages, accents and styles. Encouraging us all to be tolerant and empathetic with the ones that dare to move from their comfort zones. I might be a dreamer, but I believe that the openness and kindness we have in our community can bring hope to the world.
I invite you to join the dream and attend #FIGT17NL.
