FIGT16NL CONFERENCE UPDATES

We are pleased to announce that all our keynote speakers have been finalized!

Christopher O'ShaughnessyChristopher O’Shaughnessy is a passionate and versatile author and speaker who uses a unique blend of story-telling, humor, and provocative insight to engage in the transient world of the international community. He will present on “Bringing Hope to the World: the Critical Mission of the Expat, Transient, and Cross-Cultural Community.”

Ruth Van RekenRuth Van Reken, co-founder of FIGT, grew up in Nigeria as a third culture kid (TCK)*, thinking that because her dad was a US American TCK born and raised in Iran while her mom grew up in Chicago, her story was somehow ‘unique.’ Little did she know her family’s generational lifestyle of global mobility would one day become the ‘new normal’ for countless people of every nation. She will present on “Enlarging our Tents: Using Lessons from the Past to Create Space for the New.”

Melissa Dalton-BradfordMelissa Dalton-Bradford is an award-winning author, polyglot, poet and essayist, blogger, independent scholar, soprano, mother of four, and a renowned public speaker on global mobility, loss, and on the role of community to provide stabilizing strength when these two collide. Her presentation is titled: “Holding Together: The Crucial Role of an Empathetic Community When Loss Strikes the Globally Mobile Family.”

More information on our keynote speakers can be found here.

In addition to our keynote speakers, we have confirmed over 30 additional presenters so far who will cover a variety of topics related to our theme of “Bringing Empathy and Expertise to the Evolving Global Family” at the conference during concurrent sessions, Ignite sessions, kitchen table conversations and panels. Updates are constantly being added to the website, so check back for the latest details.

DAVID C POLLOCK SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS

Our David C. Pollock Scholarship process was the most vigorous in our history, with 49 candidates from every corner of the world. The committee is grateful to all those who shared their stories and hopes with us. Your stories made our task challenging.  The five recipients this year come to us from Nigeria-Canada-US-Haiti-Tunisia-Australia-UK-Kenya. They are writing books, doing original research, creating theatre for TCKs and refugees, reaching out to survivors of torture, creating online spaces for cross-culturals, ministering to families and TCK’s internationally and busking with a flute.

We can’t wait for you to meet them and welcome them into the FIGT community in March. The 2016 Pollock Scholars are:
