Coaching Tip of the Week

Coaching Tip of the Week!

September 15, 2015

Keeping players engaged during the game is important. Particularly, if the team has had a rough go of it in the 1st half.  When you have your halftime talk with players age U9-U13 it’s a good idea to open the discussion with a positive comment about the teams play.  Kids respond better to positive comments and opening up the talk with a compliment will get their attention.  After that, you can discuss the other things in the game that might not have gone the way the team had planned.  Try to end with another positive comment to motivate them to give their best effort in the 2nd half.  If you are going to single out a player at halftime try to select one that did some good things and reinforce what positives that player did with the rest of the group.
