eTelltale #51
Hi All,
Well this weeks Telltale for something different is mostly about Lasers. Great to see 4 out there last Sunday, while several were away at their State Titles. Congrats to Rhett Gowans - second after a  countback in the Radials.  Tyrone was 4th and Alex was 6th Youth and Denver 9th in the 4.7's. Back home the Rear Commodore insisted he needed to fix something with his yacht capsized on the ramp.
We were racing for the Commodore’s Trophy. The cousins took honours in the Optis, Digby in Green, Jay in Open. In the OTBs Lachie and Jack won, holding out the Rear Commodore with lots of banter between the boats on the last run.

Now we all knew the Vice Commodore would be watching from his deck, so a few tactical thoughts to share:

"Great to see 4 Laser's,  2 420's, 1 Sabre and 11 Opti's out in perfect conditions on Sunday.  Having also seen the Etchells racing on the weekend I make the follow observation......
Have a clear strategy and implement it with tactics - What does that mean........?
The strategy, based on forecast pre race observations gives you an overview. Sat for Etchells and Flying Fifteens the wind was always going to persistently move left.  So the strategy  - to protect the left.
The tactic then meant after a good start and crossing the fleet we then covered them as we did not want them tacking back to the left.
On Sunday the strategy in race 1 should have been pressure: tactically starting boat half on the line meant you could get right to a band of pressure and the few that did end up well in front - those on the left had far less pressure".....Jacko

Next Sunday is back to racing for Club Champs and Aggregate and Friday Fun for those not doing Schools States.

Don’t have too  much fun,
Andrew
