25th - 26th February Entry & NOR
MYC Sailors PLEASE ENTER NOW!
Hi All,

Late and brief this week, I’m catching up from last weekend. Pity we didn’t get to sail down to Davey’s Bay last Sunday, but great to see Adrian’s coaching group had a great session last weekend.

This Friday we still have Friday Fun for those keen and have something to sail. For those that do come down, just a note, the Life Saving Club have a 1.2 km swim Friday night. Please don’t run anyone over.

As for the weekend, most Optis are at Lidgett Trophy.  As MYC run a course and help with coaching we don’t have resources to run a race at MYC.

Last weekend Sophie, Zac, James and Lachie went to Adelaide for the AOST Camp. The pictures are of the Saturday evening adventure challenge, the climbing frame at Adelaide Shores. Sort of like tree surfing but higher. To explain, they were selected on the  Nationals results to be in one of the Australian Opti Sailing Teams. The top kids go to Worlds. Then there are options for Asian, European and North American Championships. Sophie has been selected for the Girls team. The boys are in the AOST New Zealand team to go to Napier at Easter for the NZ Nationals. So last weekend they had a compulsory camp. They had great teaching from Rob Brewer who is the Sydney coach, plus others with lots of international experience. They had excellent talks on team racing and fleet tactics etc. Then racing each afternoon. Great to hear them being very competitive getting up in the front group at times and beating some of the top sailors. So these sailors who you know you can beat, or be not far away from, are mixing it with the best. A reflection on the quality of our racing. I know some might feel they are always towards the back, but then go elsewhere like school sailing and find themselves quite competitive. In other words you race in a competitive fleet, and we still have fun!

The week after Lidgett we host Schnapper Point. Need lots of helpers please from Opti and OTB parents. As its a big regatta with overheads we pay an entry fee like everyone visiting, so please enter soon.

All the best for the kids headed to Lidgett
