I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer! In June we said "Matane" to Amy Boling, Megan Sebren, Melissa Souther, and Atsuko Sweet. We are looking forward to signing up new members in the coming months! Bring your non-member friends to our first meeting, "Aloha", on August 20 so they can see what we're all about and what great events are in store for this year! Get extra chances to win prizes for each non-member you bring with you!
You can renew your membership with me at any time by contacting me and paying the $60 yearly dues. Please renew with Alyce Steil by August 31st in order to stay on the roster and keep getting info about all the happenings this year!
It's time to dance! The O'Misawa Wives and the MOSC will be dancing in the annual Misawa Summer Festival Nagashi Odori (Bon Dance) parade on Saturday, Aug. 22nd! MOSC Members and their families are invited to join the group for this unique opportunity! The first practice will be held next Tuesday, Aug. 11th from 10:30am-12pm off base (met at the BX parking lot at 10:25), and the second practice will be Tuesday, Aug. 18th. Please attend at least one and if possible both practices, so you will know how the dance goes. It is really fun and easy to learn (even for the kids).
Yukatas will be provided to the first 16 ladies to sign up and we will also help you find yukatas for any of the kids or guys who want to participate. There is an 800-yen cleaning fee for the yukatas after the parade and festival.
The day of the parade, you will be expected to be available in the afternoon for preparation about 1:30pm to dress in the yukata MOSC will provide. Once everyone is dressed, the group will go to the start location on white pole road. The parade begins at 4:30pm and starts at Max Value and ends at City Hall.
Let's make some great Misawa family memories and participate together in an annual cultural event and tradition! Please RSVP to the EVite as soon as possible, so we can let the O'Misawa Wives know how many are participating. Contact Yukari with any questions.
Out & About
This month the Out and About Group will be celebrating the summer with families by learning to make a geta box from Japanese washi paper. Manami-san will be teaching us how to make the small box on Thursday, Aug. 27th at 3pm. The cost is 1000-yen per box, which you will take home with you. If you would like to attend this great event with your kids, please rsvp to the Evite by August 19th to be sure we have enough supplies. If you still need to sign up for the Out and About Group, please email Monica. As always guests are always welcome!
