Congrats to New Student Employment Essentials (SEE) Trainers and SEE Attendees!

June 19-20, 2016 were memorable days in Champaign, IL when five colleagues completed the National Student Employment Association (NSEA) Student Employment Essentials (SEE) Train the Trainer Program. Please congratulate our new Regional SEE Trainers:

  • Raven Curling (rcurling@luc.edu) of the Loyola University Chicago was recognized for her conference presentation entitled 'Community Based Federal Work Study: Creating a Program that has Universal Impact' which received the 'Best of MASEA' recognition.

The Conference Planning Committee will start to meet soon for next year's conference in Springfield, Missouri and we're getting the ball rolling seeking volunteers to join the 2017 MASEA Conference Planning Committee. Membership Renewal Information

Now is the time to renew your membership! You can renew your MASEA membership for the 2016-2017 membership year (July 1 - June 30) via the MASEA Membership Page.

Membership dues for 2016-2017 are:
  • $50.00 for individual membership
  • $135.00 for institutional membership (up to 4 persons - additional people can be added at $40 each).
Benefits of membership include:
  • Connections to institutions in the Midwest embracing similar student employment change and growth opportunities;
  • Training and professional development including the annual MASEA conference and Student Employment Essentials (SEE) Training program;
  • Participation in the Student Employee of the Year (SEOTY) and Student Employment Supervisor of the Year (SESOTY) programs;
  • Access to the MASEA website including access to membership contact information, and State Representatives;
  • Access to the MASEA listserv to distribute questions, news, career opportunities, and success stories;

The opportunity to participate in calls are increasing!!! Currently, Illinois and Ohio "support groups" hold monthly calls to share best practices, approaches, and challenges.  The calls are a great way to network with colleagues in your state.

Federal Work Study Report

It is exciting to see that student employment is starting to get a place at the table to discuss the positive impact it has on college students.  Two of our very own MASEA members, Ann Wessman (Iowa State University) and Paula McLain (Northwest Missouri State University), had the opportunity to present in Washington D.C. on the topic.
