Welcome William Monk!
Our New Intern

My name is William Monk, and I am from Mount Ida, Arkansas. I am currently heading into my senior year of college at John Brown University. I will graduate in the Spring of 2022 with a degree in construction management. I chose to study construction management because of the abundance of opportunities and different options within the field. The construction management program at John Brown has done a great job of preparing for the construction field and helping provide connections through company days and interviews. This effort from the program is what helped me find Action Mechanical and get me connected with them. I interviewed with Jamie Wright and Will Stroo at one of our programs company days. That interview led to the opportunity to do an internship with Action this Summer. During my internship I have gained experience in a variety of different areas within the company. I’ve spent time learning safety, in the fab shop, estimating, in the bim department, and working with a project manager. It has been a great experience working for Action and I look forward a potential future with the company.

Kudos to the Following!

Kudos to David Nauman, Foreman
General Contractor, Flintco had to say this about David Nauman:
"It is a pleasure to work with someone that takes care of paperwork, their scope of work, and has a safety first attitude. One of the few trade partners we don’t have to worry about. Thank you Dave.”
Kudos David!

Kudos to Jerry Southerland
“Jerry Southerland stopped on his lunch break on the interstate and helped me change my flat tire!”
She was very grateful and wanted to be sure and let us know what a wonderful company we are to have such great employees!
Kudos Jerry!

Congratulations, Kevin DeBoard!
Action, Inc. Employee of the Quarter
Kevin DeBoard

This is what Project Manager, Jason DeBlock had to say about Kevin:

"Kevin DeBoard started his apprenticeship with Action in 2007 and his been here ever since. Kevin is a Journeyman Plumber and a lead man with the best work ethics out there. He never stops learning and he keeps getting better on every job. Kevin is another employee that when you need him, he is there no mater what,  when, and where; a real team player. He is as loyal as they come and bleeds Action red. Heck there is even rumor he has an Action tattoo across his lower back! We are very lucky to have him as part of the family, and we should thank him for the hard work and dedication."

Project of the Quarter
Arkansas Art Center

The Arkansas Art center is a renovation project of the original building built in 1937. The original entrance was preserved, and the building encapsulated this making it a focal point. The building is a 130,531 square foot facility with a state-of-the-art HVAC system. This system must operate within a plus or minus one-degree setpoint of the temperature and humidity to protect the artwork. The project also has a radiant floor system suppling both heating and cooling for the blossom area consisting of 36,000 feet piping in the slab. There are classrooms for forging, pottery, woodworking, welding, and painting. There are also two full kitchens and a bar to serve the restaurant inside the blossom area.

This Project started in 9-9-2019 and has a grand opening date of January 2022. Action is currently demobilizing and preparing for the final commissioning of this project.

Our crew peaked out at 25 men for both mechanical and plumbing

The Spotlight

Cameron Tarpley

This quarter’s spotlight is on Cameron Tarpley, Project Manager in our Maumelle office.

Cameron was born on August 22, 1999, in Texarkana, AR. He and his parents lived in Texarkana throughout his childhood. While living there, he attended and graduated from Texas High School.

Even from a young age, Cameron knew he wanted to work as a project manager in some type of construction field. He loved the idea of building, working as a team and having an influence. He wanted to be able to drive passed completed projects and know he had a part in them. So, after he graduated high school, he moved to Conway, AR and began his new chapter in life; a full-time college student. He began this incredible journey in the fall of 2018 and after a very intense and rigorous three years, Cameron graduated early from UALR with a Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management and an Associate’s Degree in Construction Science.  Because of his dedication and commitment to learning, Cameron also graduated with high honors, earning a 3.96 GPA, while carrying up to 18 credit hours in some semesters. He said he fell short of his 4.0, because he received a B in one of his classes.

In Cameron’s early days of college, he applied for, and was accepted into Action’s internship program. He signed his Internship Program Acceptance Letter with Action on October 18, 2018. During the following three years, Cameron was able to work next to some of the greatest minds in the industry. He certainly took advantage of their knowledge and learned from their tutorship, because in May of 2019, he was promoted to Assistant Project Manager, and then promoted to Project Manager in May 2021.

During the time when Cameron was attending college, he was also busy building his own personal life. On August 1, 2020, Cameron and Ashley were married. Ashley and Cameron were high school sweethearts since their sophomore year. Currently Ashley is attending UCA working towards her degree in Speech Pathology. She will graduate in 2022 and then begin working on her master’s degree. Ultimately, her goal is to work as a speech therapist.

Now that Cameron has some free time on his hands, he’s getting re-acquainted with his love of bass fishing.

Cameron’s bucket list isn’t a big one, but it is certainly filled with heartfelt interests. He said ultimately, he wants to move out in the country to get away from having neighbors. He also wants to experience deep sea fishing, spend some time on the beach, and go to Alaska.

Cameron’s words to the wise include, “Listen a lot, do research, and take good notes. The project managers and foremen have so much knowledge to share.”

In closing, I did not know Cameron very well before writing this page. But, since interviewing him and hearing him speak about goals and dreams, and what is important to him, I know that he will achieve all of his bucket list items, and then some!

I wish you the best my friend. Let nothing stand in your way!

Respectfully by,
Robin D’Onofrio

2021-2022 Scholarship Recipients

Alan Wright - President, Dyllan Newell, Allan Newell - Father & Shop Manager

"Thank you again for your continued support for the last 4 years. This scholarship has been extremely helpful for me and my family as I continue my studies at the University of Arkansas - Fort Smith. I have been working on getting my bachelors degree in Media Communication for the last 3 years. As I enter my senior year, it is a blessing to know that I will be leaving my undergrad with zero debt. As through this scholarship and some others from the school and state I have been able to attend college for free and actually get paid to attend school. After my senior year, I plan to either get a job in higher education through my fraternity's main office and pursue a master's degree in business administration, or go straight to grad school for my master's. Again thank you for your support through this scholarship and helping further my education."

- Dyllan Newell

Alan Wright - President, Hunter Cook, Donny Cook -Father & Project Manager

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for supporting higher education. It is an honor to have been selected to receive the Family Scholarship Award for the 2021-2022 academic years. My major will be in Marketing and Management at UCA in Conway, AR."

- Hunter Cook
