LET US PRAY FOR JACK SCHRENKER, OUR FRIEND AND COLLEAGUE…
Jack Schrenker, a faithful and self-sacrificing minister at Saint Charles Borromeo, passed away early yesterday morning. Many of us knew Jack for his longstanding commitment to liturgical and pastoral care outreach, which he coordinated at his parish. He also trained ministers for nearby parishes, too. Our condolences and prayers to Jack’s family. Eternal rest, grant unto him, O’ Lord. The Order of Christian Funeral will be celebrated this Saturday, April 8, 2017 at St. Charles Borromeo in Orlando. A visitation and vigil service will be conducted at 12:15PM followed by Mass at 2:00PM.
A REFLECTION ON INNOVATION AS IT RELATES TO MINISTRY…
In a recent team-meeting we did some faith-sharing around the gospel of the Man Born Blind. We honed in on a couple of catechetical principles that affect all of us in ministry today. The man’s parents advise the Jewish leaders to seek him out directly, “he is of age, and can speak for himself.” This is the semblance of mature discipleship that we strive to nurture in all believers. In a similar fashion, the man fully seems to grasp the mantel of discipleship. In fact, he questions his inquisitors’ motivation, “do you wish to become His disciples, too?” And, of course, the leaders involved capitulate in defiance, “we are disciples of Moses.”
In this season of the Great Fast (Lent) we should be mindful of how our quests in ministry can sometimes drive us backward. We can become too rooted in the comfort of what we know; we can lose sight of the mystery; we can lose touch with people as our ways of connecting can become too limited, or even irrelevant.
Pope Francis asked married couples: “How are things when it comes to joy at home? Is there joy in your family?” How would you answer the Pope? He said that true joy “comes from a profound harmony between persons.”
What have you done for your marriage today? How can you bring the joy back?

Friends, I will be leaving my position as the Director of Youth Ministry to join the team at San Pedro Spiritual Development Center as their new Program Director. It has been a privilege and blessing to work in the Secretariat for Laity, Family, and Life. I will begin my new role on April 17, 2017.
I have treasured my time working alongside all of you to build up the young church. Thank you for welcoming me with such warmth and support! I know you will support and welcome the new Director of Youth Ministry when he/she is hired. I pray our collaboration will find new ways to develop as I take on this new role at San Pedro.
I have received questions on what will happen with NCYC, WYD, and the YM Retreat. All three of these events will continue as planned, with adjustments in place until my successor is hired.
NCYC: Planning will fall to delegation team leaders, Jennifer Chellberg and Gayle Zambito, who will work with Dennis (until a new YM Director is in place) with admin support from Edna Quinones in the office; the NCYC website is up and running and the Parish Leader Packet will be sent out soon.
WYD: Specific information about WYD will be sent out later this month, so that parishes can gauge interest and begin their promotional and fundraising efforts.
YM Retreat: I will continue planning and facilitating the YM Retreat on behalf of the secretariat in the interim before a new YM director comes on board.
I look forward to working with my replacement and all of you through my new role!

The document is a combined effort of NCEA, NCCL, and NFCYM and contains over twenty-five reflection questions for leaders and catechists to use as a means of discussing, applying, and integrating the principal points highlighted throughout the document. This webinar will be presented by the principal writing team to offer an overview of the document with ideas on how to best utilize it in assessing and re-imagining what adolescent catechesis can look like in parish, school, and home settings.
