A message from the Secretary...
Please accept a heartfelt “thank you” to anyone who had any part in FFD-2015. It was a great event, which all told, gathered more than 900 people (catechists, presenters, exhibitors, collaborators, etc.). Bishop Noonan was impressed with Father Cely’s keynote, the breakouts, and the cultural diversity that was present. The SEFL-team is grateful for everyone’s participation. Special thanks to Bishop Moore High School and Saint Charles Borromeo Parish and School for hosting us. We look forward to next year’s gathering (after a little break, of course).
The attitude is gratitude this week as we welcome Pope Francis to the United States of America. This is a pinnacle moment in Catholic life for our generation.  Not much more needs to be said by me as the media coverage has already begun in earnest. Here is a link for exclusive coverage from the USCCB through their new app, VIVA IL PAPA!
Lynda Monckton has joined the Secretariat for Evangelization and Family Life as our new director of Family Ministry. Lynda has been around the diocese for many years and comes to us from the Parish of the Nativity. She brings a wealth of experience and is excited to share her talents. She can be reached at or 407.246.4882.
Yahaira Olmeda comes to us from the Parish of Saint Francis of Assisi where she recently served as the parish catechetical leader. Yahaira is joining our support team and comes with a strong ministerial background coupled with an excellent skill-set as an administrative assistant. She can be reached at or 407.246.4914.
Please join us in welcoming these two fine ministry professionals who have been part of our lay ecclesial minister community for many years. It is a joy to have them serving on the diocesan level.
Vocations to the priesthood are everyone’s business and planting the seeds of professional ministry can be a challenge – especially among Latinos. There are many factors that influence a person’s decision to discern a vocation. One constant is that we, the Church (i.e. people), need to invite and encourage those who are interested in exploring the possibility. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops is particularly concerned that we should do this, and more effectively, among our Hispanic Catholic population. Consequently, a workshop on the topic has been developed and is being offered around the country. Our own Bishop Noonan is a keynote at some of the events. As a former seminary rector and as bishop of an ethnically diverse diocese, he knows the challenges of seeding and nurturing vocations. We can help be part of the solution. Here is the workshop details  or for more information, please contact the Office of Vocations.

Catechist Formation Update
Catechist Formation (DCCP) Classes
The next set of four catechist classes takes place on October 3rd in Melbourne, Apopka and Daytona Beach. Some of these topics are the least frequently offered, including Catechesis and Human Development and Adult Faith Formation. Now is the time to enroll! If online registration has closed, send me an email ( with contact information.
The five classes on Oct 10th are hosted in Lakeland, Orlando, Daytona Beach, Clermont, and Winter Park. Another infrequent class, Catechesis and Social Ministry, will be offered. Online registrations close September 30th. To see the complete list of classes visit the Class Schedule tab on this page The blue class name is the link for each class’ registration page.

Payment for classes is expected at the time of registration – the online registration page accepts credit cards. Those individuals who must pay by cash or check – which is not possible online – are asked to mail their payment with the contact information of each participant directly to the diocesan catechetical office. Please allow for postal mailing time. This procedure is explained on the web page. After the office inputs the registration, both the “buyer” (parish or individual) and each participant receive a confirmation/receipt email.
Faith Formation Day 2015 — Some follow-up
Last Saturday’s formation event had more than 900 attendees, exhibitors, presenters and volunteers, all gathered at Bishop Moore Catholic High School. Bible Verse of the Week

And now, but a short time ago, mercy came to us from the LORD, our God, who left us a remnant and gave us a stake in his holy place; thus our God has brightened our eyes and given us relief in our servitude."
Ezr 9:8

The Diocesan Calendar is now set up to include all Diocesan events. The Diocese of Saint Augustine, under the leadership of Most Reverend Bishop Felipe Estévez invites the youth from near and far to join in the FIAT FEST 2015.
The FIAT FEST 2015, is a response to Pope Francis' exhortation for the religious
to Wake up the World.  Several religious communities will be on hand to share the beauty and joy of answering their call to the religious life.
