At DFM, we know how important it is to keep you informed, on top of trends and insights. This is why we’ve launched a monthly round-up of trending news with quick reviews on top stories making headlines in the world of marketing.

Read on to see what these insights could mean for your brand and how you can apply these lessons to stay ahead of the pack:

Branding: That Dove Ad

While the dust has settled since Dove’s marketing faux pas, the advert which made rounds on social media has left a bad taste in many consumers mouths. As a result, Dove has had to work overtime to regain consumer trust and credibility.

The Lesson:

While many brands try to tap into different audiences with creative and original content, they still need to think strategically (and carefully) about how these campaigns might be received. No harm was meant by the Dove advert, but unfortunately in the world of the “woke”, these excuses are better left in the boardroom.

Do market research to understand your consumers and strategically deliver great campaigns to make them trust your brand and the services you offer.

Viral Marketing, Social Media: The Ting Goes

If you haven’t come across the viral “the ting goes” video yet, you probably live in a place where Facebook and other major social media networks don’t exist. The video, which now has over 10 million views to date, can serve as a great example of the power of social media and authenticity.

The Lesson:

While Michael Dapaah, creator of rap character “Big Shaq”, is, in reality, a comedian, his authentic parody of a familiar character in pop culture has helped take his personal brand to new levels, citing his newly found social media fame.

But what can brands learn from the millennial rubbing shoulders with rap mega-stars like DJ Khaled and Drake? Authentic content will always win over audiences.

Brands don’t need to reinvent the wheel. Instead, they should be using social media to tell great and authentic stories that connect to their audiences through emotion.

Graphic Design Trends To Watch:

As the year ends, many of us are anticipating what trends will be topping headlines in 2018.

In the world of graphic design, be sure to keep your eye out for illustrative typography and double exposure that'll make content or web pages pop.

You’ll also see the use of vivid colours to help make brands more identifiable in an over-saturated market (no pun intended), and the use of geometric shapes and patterns across branding elements like logo design.
That’s all for this month in marketing news. Remember, if you need some expert advice on branding, social media or graphic design, you can simply contact us to get a quote on one of our #ExceptionalMarketing services.
