Dear family, friends and colleagues,

I hope this update finds you all well.

I thought I’d take this opportunity to describe how we are going about building the demo.

We’re currently undertaking a development ‘sprint’ over the remaining weeks up until Christmas.  Guiding the program’s build is the project management framework, “Scrum”.  This framework is highly iterative and incremental in its approach, particularly as opposed to more rigid project management processes that incorporate GANTT charts and work breakdown structures.

The essence of Scrum is to deconstruct a project into smaller ‘sprints’ that take place over defined lengths of time (1-4 weeks), in which, tangible progress is made on different components of a product’s development.  Each sprint has planning and review stages, complimented by a daily Scrum meeting where every team member is asked: “1. What did you do yesterday to move the project forward? 2. What will you do today to move the project forward? 3. What obstacles are preventing you from doing your work?”.  The idea is that a project is much easier to tackle when ‘de-chunked’, progress is monitored and discussed on a consistent basis, and necessary adjustments can be made along the way.

If you are interested, there are other aspects to Scrum that are detailed far more effectively than I could ever describe in this short Atlassian article: https://www.atlassian.com/agile/scrum.

In summary, we are carrying out development in a way to ensure we produce a demo that is high quality, quickly developed, cost effective and meets our customers’ needs.  It is my hope as CEO that adopting this framework will give the team more autonomy, boost collaboration and ownership, improve progress visibility and reduce risk in the development process.

In the hyper-competitive environment of technology startups, we must do whatever we can to increase our chances of success.  As the saying goes, “adapt or die”.

As always, I’d love to hear if you have any comments, feedback or questions about Unleashed VR.
