FRIDAY, JUNE 7
- Summer Ball (black tie) to mark the start of Abridge Village Weekend. Fully licensed bar, carpeted marquee, dance floor and stage, round tables dressed with linen and glassware. Champagne reception, professional caterers with silver service waitresses serving a four-course hot meal. Bar opens 6.30pm with dinner served at 7.15pm Music from BARCOD. Dancing until midnight. Tables can seat from two to 12 people. Tickets, priced £48 each, go on sale March 18. Ring 07719 005928.

- Watercolour workshop: Learning from Bonnard, Bedford House, Westbury Road, Buckhurst Hill. Examining the techniques of a great painter to develop your own work. (10am-3pm). Basket-making for Beginners workshop, Bedford House, Westbury Road, Buckhurst Hill. An introduction to this traditional craft – you will take home a basket you have crafted yourself! SATURDAY, JUNE 8
- Abridge Festival event - 1940s Swing Band, 75th D-Day commemoration. An evening of swing and wartime classics remembering all our war heroes from the D-Day Landings. Adults £10 (six to 16-year-olds £5; under six free). The event is in the marquee on the Abridge Village Hall field with stage dance floor and lighting. - Loughton Residents' Association farmers market, Centric Parade, High Road, Loughton (9am-3pm). Produce stalls and local organisations. Loughton Residents' Association councillors on hand to respond to residents’ questions and problems.
