Your region update - August 22


Our success continues with a podium finish at the Youth Home International, Summer Regional's complete and Petplan Area Festival's underway.
October Camps are now available to book and save the date - the North & East Presentation and Ball at Tankersley Manor will now be Saturday 7 January, bookings open 1 October. 

Youth Home International 2022

Arena UK 5-7 August 2022 
What a show at Arena UK, a huge thank you to Lauren Fogg and her team for putting on the event, we have had so much wonderful feedback.
We took 25 riders and 28 horses who all performed well, achieving many goals and a podium finish with Team London taking third place and a number of individual placings. Thank you to our Chef D'Equipe Jess Griffiths.

Bicton Arena, Devon 23 25 September 2022 
Applications are now open for the 2022 Senior Home International.
Can you help us defend our title? 
The cut off for Scores and training is 21 August and applications submitted by midday on Monday 22 August.
Bicton Arena is a lovely venue and not far from the coast.

Senior/Para Performance Camp - Bishop Burton 23-25 October 22

Private lessons and additional professional workshops. We are extremely fortunate to have secured this opportunity. All lessons indoors, two nights stabling

Includes a condensed Horse Massage Course with Victoria Spalding ACPAT physiotherapy and other professional workshops.

BD Youth/Para Camp - Bishop Burton 28 - 30 October 22


Our BD Youth Camp is open to all riders from the age of 6 – 25 (BD Youth). All levels are welcome from those just starting in Dressage to BD competition riders. This is an opportunity to spend 2 full days with your horse/pony focusing on developing your dressage skills at one of the region’s BD competition venues. In addition to the Bishop Burton Arena there are further indoor and all weather arenas, on site café, showers and stabling. The weekend package includes: 2 Shared Lessons (3/4 hr) 1 test riding analysis & feedback from BD Youth Rider Test Assessors (Saturday) Competitive Rider skills test and BD test riding (Sunday), and rider profiling and Goal setting for 2023.

Hosted in the region at Arena UK 6-9 October 22 we have opportunities to write for our high listed Judges and potential for sitting in and practice judging opportunities.  If you can volunteer for us please complete the doodle poll below.

Please see the links below for the handbook and the tack and equipment guide.
If you are riding at championships and still unsure, please go and see the steward before you get on as they are always happy to help
Common Issues
  • Whips - Not allowed for Regionals or Area Festivals unless with a dispensation. You cannot take them from the warm up and into the space around the arena
  • Spurs - must be made entirely of metal and fitted correctly - pointing downwards
  • Bits - many new ones on the market, please check it first or ask.
  • No training aids in the test or warm up
  • Tacking up - check its all fitted correctly before you get on
Key mesage - keep your stewards happy - if in doubt go and ask

Regional Training

All regional training is now on the Horse monkey platform.  A great way to access and record your training with our BD Coaches across the region, come along to our camps in a number of great locations or get ready for championships with test riding at our major event venues.

Flexi Training is a great way of accessing BDCC Accredited or Recognised Coaches for Senior, Youth and Para riders across the region at a mutually convenient time. These great coaches welcome riders at all levels and invite you to make contact. They share the ethos of developing you and your horse or pony, building our regional teams and creating a community of riders across the region. 

YOUTH COACHES have had additional training and can also assess Rider Skills Tests.
