The PyCon Canada organizers have been hard at work reviewing and finalizing the schedule for this year’s conference.

But we wanted to point out an upcoming deadline and announce our next keynote!

New Keynote Announcement!

We are thrilled to announce Solmaz Shahalizadeh as one of our keynote speakers!

Solmaz is the VP of Data Science and Engineering at Shopify leading the data organization. Her teams build the data platform and the machine learning solutions that power Shopify's internal and merchant facing data products including Shopify's real-time Order Fraud Analysis, Shopify Capital and Shopify Home. Her and her teams build majority of their data solutions using Python (and Spark) and she is a big fan of the Python community. Solmaz has multiple graduate degrees in computer science and machine learning. Prior to joining Shopify, she worked at Morgan Stanley as an analyst and at McGill University as a cancer researcher, applying machine learning techniques to predict breast cancer outcome. Solmaz has a passion for building high quality data products that delight users and solve real world problems.

Last Chance for Financial Aid

Just a reminder that our last round of financial aid applications are due Oct. 7. We encourage anyone who might not be able to attend PyCon Canada to apply.

While we wish we could give grants to everyone who applies, we have limited funds. Our goal is to get the most people to PyCon Canada by optimizing the funds we have.

Many thanks to Tucows for being our Diamond Diversity Sponsor and Shopify for being our Diversity Sponsor this year and helping to bring as many speakers and attendees to PyCon Canada.
