First off, thank you all for helping us in selling out PyCon Canada 2018!

We’re only a few days away from PyCon Canada 2018 and as we start our countdown to this year’s conference, we want to remind you a few things so that you can have a great experience.

Pre-conference Party

Thank you to Top Hat for hosting this year’s pre-conference party. It’s taking place on Friday November 9 starting at 7:30pm.

If you’re attending the conference this year, please grab a ticket and join us! Please note: Because of capacity of the space, only people with tickets will be allowed in. So don’t delay!

Venue:

The talks and tutorials are being held at The Chestnut Conference Centre (89 Chestnut Street) in downtown Toronto on November 10 and 11.

This venue is a short walk from Dundas or St. Patrick subway stations via the TTC (ttc.ca). Or, you can take the 505 Dundas streetcar along Dundas St. to Chestnut St. and walk from there.

Please note:
1. Subway service starts at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
2. There will be no subway service on Line 1 between Finch West and Lawrence West stations on November 10 and 11 due to signal upgrades. (For more information and to view the subway map, go to ttc.ca) Shuttle buses will operate between these stations for the duration of the closure.

There is also public parking (Green P parking lots: greenp.com) available nearby for those who are driving in.

Time to arrive

We’ll be starting registration at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday and 8:30 a.m. on Sunday. The earlier you arrive to the start time, the less time you’ll have to wait in line to register and pick up your badge! Plus, you get first dibs on breakfast! Please bring proof of purchase so we know you bought a ticket.

Food

We’re pleased to announce we’ll offering complimentary breakfast, lunch and snacks for both days.

Lightning Talks

New this year: We have lightning talks and they’re taking place Sunday morning. We’re giving any attendees 5 minutes to take the stage and speak to other attendees!

Open Space

The St. George room on the 3rd floor will be made available for “Open Space,” a 30-minute meet-up event where attendees can meet-up on a specific topic.

Childcare

For those who have registered for childcare, please drop your children off at the Elm suite on the 2nd floor when you arrive. There will be staff there from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Please pick up your children by 6:00 p.m.

Sprints

The fun does not end when the talks end! We still have two days of development sprints! Sprints are a time to work on open source projects. A few maintainers will be leading projects and all are welcome to come and hack on a few things on November 12 and 13.

Sprints are taking place at the Design Exchange (234 Bay Street) starting at 9:00 a.m.

We’ll be bringing coffee and snacks. Please bring your laptop and join in on the fun!

Nous sommes à quelques jours seulement de PyCon Canada 2018 et comme la compte à rebours est en marche nous aimerions vous rappeler quelques trucs afin que vous ayez la meilleure expérience possible.

Party de Pré-conférence

Nous remercions Top Hat d’héberger le party de pré-conférence cette année. Cet événement aura lieu vendredi le 9 novembre à partir de 19h30. Si vous assistez à la conférence cette année, n’hésitez pas à vous inscrire gratuitement pour le party. Prenez note que la capacité de la salle est limitée donc seulement les personnes avec billets seront acceptées. Ne perdez pas une minute!

Emplacement

Les présentations et les tutoriels auront lieu au Chestnut Conference Centre (89 Chestnut Street), au centre-ville de Toronto, le 10 et le 11 novembre.

Le centre de congrès est près des stations de métro Dundas et St. Patrick. Si vous préférez, vous pouvez prendre le tramway 505 Dundas jusqu’à la rue Chestnut et marcher.

Nous commencerons l'inscription à 8h00 le samedi et à 8h30 le dimanche. Plus vous arrivez tôt, moins vous attendrez pour vous inscrire et de récupérer votre billet… en plus d’arriver en premier au déjeuner! Merci d’apporter une preuve d’achat pour que nous sachions que vous avez bien acheté un billet.

Nouveauté cette année: nous organisons des présentations éclaires dimanche matin. Les présentations seront de 5 minutes. C’est une excellente occasion pour n’importe qui de présenter une idée sans trop de préparation.

Espace libre

Dans la salle St. George (au 3e étage) sera aménagé un espace libre. Un espace libre est une discussion improvisée de 30 minutes entre participants concernant un sujet particulier.

Service de garde

Si vous avez enregistré des enfants à notre service de garde, s’il-vous-plaît amenez les à la Elm Suite au deuxième étage. Le service de garde est ouvert de 8h à 18h. S’il-vous-plaît, venez chercher à 18h. Merci encore à Freshbooks pour leur commandite du service de garde.

Sprints

L’événement ne se termine pas avec la fin des présentations! Nous aurons encore deux jours de sprints! Les sprints sont un moment privilégié pour travailler sur des projets open source. Tous sont bienvenus et quelques mainteneurs de projets seront sur place pour vous orienter.

Les sprints auront lieu à Design Exchange (234 rue Bay) à partir de 9am, le lundi 12 novembre et mardi 13 novembre.

Nous fournirons café et collations. Amenez votre ordinateur portable et joignez-vous à nous!
