Confesses to active role in illegal unconstitutional redistricting deal
Admits to turning her back on rural voters
Wilton, New York - June 20, 2022 - In an interview this weekend with WAMC radio, Assemblywoman Carrie Woerner confessed to her role in an illegal - unconstitutional deal in which she turned her back on rural voters in Washington County in favor of urban voters. (Read the full interview here)
"Woerner basically told Washington County rural voters to 'drop dead', she has no use for them," said Catalfamo.
The redistricting plan authored by Albany Democrats, has been ruled unconstitutional by Republican and Democrat judges across the state, including the state's highest court. The 113th Assembly District is the last district in the state with a Republican enrollment advantage held by a Democrat.
"It is crystal clear, the very first chance Carrie Woerner got she illegally stripped out as many rural voters as she could from the district," said Catalfamo. "Carrie violated the constitutional rights of voters in the 113th for her own benefit."
Woerner dropped the more rural Washington county communities of Argyle, Cambridge, Easton and split Hudson Falls from Kingsbury. As she acknowledges, the City of Glens Falls was added at her request. Woerner's actions violated several aspects of the State Constitution as it applies to redistricting. For example:
The maintenance of existing districts, pre-existing political subdivisions, including counties, cities, towns, and communities of interest;
Districts cannot be drawn to discourage competition, or for the purpose of favoring or disfavoring incumbents.
Concluded Catalfamo, "Each session that goes by Carrie Woerner votes more and more like the downstate Democrats that are destroying our state. It's clear she is a phony whose only interest is to get reelected."
