Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing opens "most impressive" new teaching space at Loyola Preparatory School
New teaching space at Loyola Preparatory School in Buckhurst Hill has been officially opened by Epping Forest MP Eleanor Laing.
The school has created two new teaching rooms - one for science and one for art - by building a Mansard roof extension at its premises in Palmerston Road.
To the surprise of headmaster Peter Nicolson, the new area is to be known as The Nicolson Suite, and Mrs Laing presented Mr Nicholson with a plaque which will be put up in the new area.
Next month marks the beginning of Mr Nicholson's 30th year as headmaster at Loyola.
Mr Nicolson said: "It was felt that perhaps there was one final development we could do under my stewardship. For some time we have wanted to give space for students to do practical science, crafts and design.
"We now have more space for the pupils to engage in practical experiments in science and practical design in art."
Mrs Laing was given a tour of the school by Mr Nicholson and was introduced to some of the pupils before being invited to cut the ribbon to officially open The Nicholson Suite.
Mrs Laing said: "It was a great privilege to visit Loyola Preparatory School. The boys are very engaging and I greatly enjoyed visiting their classes and hearing their enthusiastic accounts of what they are learning.
"The new facilities are most impressive and I know that generations of Loyola pupils will greatly benefit from them."
