College inducts 11 into Alumni Excellence Academy

WMU’s College of Engineering and Applied Sciences inducted 11 graduates into the Alumni Excellence Academy as part of the university’s homecoming festivities in October. Recognition events included a state of the college luncheon, presentation of awards at the Bernhard Center, followed by a reception for distinguished alumni from throughout Western and hosted by President John Dunn.

DENSO North America Foundation awards $50,000 grant

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering was awarded a $50,000 grant from the DENSO North America Foundation to fund improvements to WMU’s automotive systems laboratory and provide equipment for the student-run Formula SAE team (see related story in this issue). Dr. Rick Meyer, assistant professor, submitted the proposal and said that the grant will make a significant impact on student learning and enhance research activities.

Formula SAE team off to a fast start

Bronco Racing, Western Michigan University’s Formula SAE Team, recently finished its most successful competition season to date. The team placed second at the 2016 Grand Prix hosted by Lawrence Technological University, where the University of Toledo edged out the Bronco team by only 0.3 seconds.
