We met George and his daughter Sally online earlier this year.  Sally helps George with his FishbyGeorge Etsy Shop

George inquired about the Old School Lure Eyes you will find in our GlassEyesOnLine Etsy Shop.  

Jerry and I were born and raised in Maryland and happily discovered that George and Sally live there.
  
Everyone who loves crabs will probably tell you the best tasting crabs are found in Maryland's Chesapeake Bay.  We miss those crabs so we commissioned George to make the Old Bay Fish Decoy that you see in the photo.  It has a prominent place in our collection of wood carvings.  

 Check out FishbyGeorge for some wonderful Folk Art  Hand Carved Fish Decoys.  These Decoys will make great gifts for Wildlife and Fishing Enthusiasts this Holiday Season.  

We are heading to Easton, Maryland for the 2015 Waterfowl Festival being held November 13, 14, 15 and look forward to some Old Bay seasoned crabs along with fabulous wildlife wood carvings and paintings.

People, Places, and Things  

This Month:  Ordinary People Doing Extraordinary Things!

Pam Suter crocheted and sewed over 1300 stuffed animals for Operation Christmas Child (OCC) Shoeboxes in 2015.

I met Pam online a few years ago when she was looking for Safety Eyes. We had a wonderful phone conversation recently and Pam agreed to share our talk in "Hodgepodge" this month.

When and How did you get involved with Operation Christmas Child, Pam?

It all started when my daughter, Caitlin came home from a girl scout meeting in 2010 with a "How to Pack A Shoebox" pamphlet and an invitation to a Shoe Box Packing Party at Grace Church in McKean, Pennsylvania. We went to the packing party and that is where I learned more about OCC and what happens to the shoe boxes.   I saw God in action helping the team and volunteers pack over 10,000 Shoe Boxes.  I was inspired to become a year round volunteer.   Each year Grace Church hosts a community wide Shoebox Packing Party.  I make stuffed animals and pack shoe boxes that go to children in need all over the world. I also signed up to be on the Prayer Team that meets monthly because I felt called to that part of the ministry.  

Can you tell me more about the Prayer Team? 
     
I'm a member of the Northwestern, Pennsylvania prayer mobilization team.  Our prayer team meets once a month at church or a members home to have prayer and fellowship. Prayer requests come  to the team through e-mail and also individuals. Prayer is the foundation of the OCC Ministry.  We pray for the OCC teams, individual volunteers, and the children. We pray that the children that receive the shoe boxes will know and feel God's love and be drawn to God. We pray that each Shoebox has a ripple effect of reaching out to communities around the world.  I receive so much spiritual enrichment being part of this ministry and the prayer team.   

I saw on your facebook page that this year you are making little mice.  I think they are so precious.  Can you tell me about the patterns you use for your stuffed  animals?  

I get asked where I get my patterns all the time!  I get free patterns from books and the internet.  My favorite site for patterns is greatamigurumi.blogspot.com.  

I read that you completed over 1300 stuffed animals in 2015 that traveled around the world to children living in poverty and areas of war and natural disasters. That is an incredible number of stuffed animals and you put so much detail in them!   When do you start working on the stuffed animals and do you have help?  

I sew and crochet year round.  My daughter Caitlin has been my biggest help and supporter.  She helps cutting material and naming the animals, packing shoe boxes, and making her own donations.  A few years ago, my son, Joshua, gave me a sewing machine for Christmas to use.  I also get so much praise and encouragement from my daughter, Amanda.  I appreciate every like and comment I get on my facebook page.  It motivates and encourages me.  My facebook page is

As I recall, we send the 14mm Clear Safety Eyes.  Your mice have color in their eyes.  How do you apply the color?

I paint the back with Sharpie Markers and it works well. 

What is your goal for this year? How many animals do you want to make?

My Goal is to have fun and see what God does.   I don't want to put any limits on God.

Do you have 1 or 2 favorite bible verses or prayers that you can share with us today as we begin the holiday season?

I would like to share these two that I think fit well with our conversation today.
Isaiah 6:8  The I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send?  And Who will go for us?" And I said Here am I. Send me!"

Ephesians 3:20  Now, to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us.
