Senior Center Pays It Forward For Thanksgiving
The Nevada Gold Mines graciously donated two turkey dinners to the Lander County Senior Center. The Senior Center decided to pay it forward and offered these turkey dinners to two families in need of a Thanksgiving dinner.
These challenging economic times are weathered best when we come together as a community, and we thank The Senior Center for their kindhearted generosity during the holiday season.

Innovative Flood Awareness Education Resources
New educational materials to go along with the Humboldt River Story Map will soon be made available to county schools. Intended for middle school students, these new materials open the door for classrooms to delve into the historical flood events that profoundly impacted local communities.
While the Story Map outlines the history of flooding along the Humboldt River, the new classroom lessons will help students further explore local stories and have an opportunity to come up with their own solutions and improvements to infrastructure in their watershed. The Nevada Division of Water Resources, US Army Corps of Engineers, and Sierra Nevada Journeys partnered together to create these interactive resources in hopes that we remember the dramatic events that shaped our past and engage youth to be a part of tomorrow’s solutions.

Lander County Commissioner Meeting Takeaways
Dec. 6th Meeting
Agenda
Meeting Packet
Meeting Video
- A contract was approved between AM Engineering and Lander County. Bert Ramos thanked Aaron Martinez for the amazing work he continually does, which often decreases demand for his continued services. Projects completed over the last year can be found in the meeting packet on pps. 147-150.
- An update from Dr. Robin Willcourt with the Lander County Health Center regarding current respiratory illnesses prevalent in the community. What has been reported by national health experts has shown to be contrary to widespread data, and we have been terribly let down by those we’ve trusted for guidance. Jobs were shredded, economy devastated, children were negatively impacted, and division in society was heightened. Misinformation and untruths proclaiming that COVID vaccines will prevent virus spread and deaths continue, while currently 96% of hospitalizations and mortality rates are arising from those who have undergone repeated doses of COVID vaccines. There’s an increase of excessive deaths worldwide. With the prevalence of Flu A & B strains, RSV, and COVID present in Lander County, Dr. Willcourt emphasized that the FLCCC protocol has proven effective in reducing deaths by 80%, and that his office will prescribe ivermectin. Lander residents can equip themselves with the information and supplements so that people do not die needlessly. Dr. Willcourt’s presentation notes are available on pp. 545-549 of the meeting packet. Dr. Willcourt stated that the FLCCC protocols have been shown effective as treatment for all respiratory diseases. FLCCC protocols are available here.
- Bobby Jones, Outdoor Connection Coordinator with the Nevada Department of Wildlife, reported the results of a relevancy survey sharing the economic impact of hunting in Lander County. Outdoor recreation is important for mental and physical health, and studies have found that those who spend 6 or more hours outside are healthier on average. Half of young adults will not travel more than 30 miles to visit a park or natural area. That being said, hunting is a major outdoor activity in Lander County, with $4 million of annual expenditures occurring in the county. In 2020, the economic effects of big game hunting totaled $2,070,805 in Lander County. The reports that Mr. Jones submitted are available on pp. 161-501.
