Lander County Video Production In The Works

When tragedy hits our community, we all suffer, especially when it involves our youth.

Lander County may be rural with a small population, but that doesn’t mean we’re immune to the issues impacting big cities around the nation.

The fentanyl crisis recently hit close to home, and we look forward to giving a voice to the family as we support them in their grief.

Our hope is that similar tragedies of this kind can be prevented in the future - through this storytelling.

Stay tuned for the release of this community spotlight video production next month.

Lander County Becomes Recipient of Renown Health Fitness Court Grant

This month the Northeastern Nevada Regional Development Authority announced that Lander County, Nevada has become the latest recipient of the Renown Health Fitness Court grant. NNRDA working in collaboration with the National Fitness Campaign assisted in the identification of Battle Mountain as a Priority 1 Site and presented the concept to the Lander County Commission. Sean Bakker and his team at the BM Rec. Center then put together a stellar application that was quickly approved. Additional funding will need to be secured to bring this project to fruition; however, this grant is an enormous step towards seeing the outdoor fitness court completed. Congratulations Lander, we look forward to seeing this new addition to your community.

Other communities within the region are currently being considered.

Elko recently had an NFC Health Fitness Court constructed in Angel Park – feel free to go over and get in a few reps while you’re in town!

SSR Mining: Valmy Expansion Overview & Request for Feedback

SSR Mining recently presented an overview of the Marigold Mine and Valmy Expansion project to Lander County Commissioners and officials. SSR Mining is eager to keep residents informed about the Marigold Mine, as it is the third largest employer in Lander County. The mine has been in production since 1927, and has produced 4 million ounces of gold doré since 2020. The community has been enriched by consistent donations and scholarship provisions from the mine. Adherence to strong environmental standards is at the forefront of project goals.

SSR Mining Community Relations Specialist, Jennifer Jonas, shared that the community is always welcome to contact us with their feedback. A fact sheet of the Marigold Mine and Valmy Expansion is available here.

To share community feedback, a Feedback Form available here in English or in Spanish can be completed and emailed to marigoldcommunity@ssrmining.com
