Lander County Video Production In The Works

When tragedy hits our community, we all suffer, especially when it involves our youth.

Lander County may be rural with a small population, but that doesn’t mean we’re immune to the issues impacting big cities around the nation.

The fentanyl crisis recently hit close to home, and we look forward to giving a voice to the family as we support them in their grief.

Our hope is that similar tragedies of this kind can be prevented in the future - through this storytelling.

Stay tuned for the release of this community spotlight video production next month.

Lander County Becomes Recipient of Renown Health Fitness Court Grant

This month the Northeastern Nevada Regional Development Authority announced that Lander County, Nevada has become the latest recipient of the Renown Health Fitness Court grant. NNRDA working in collaboration with the National Fitness Campaign assisted in the identification of Battle Mountain as a Priority 1 Site and presented the concept to the Lander County Commission. Sean Bakker and his team at the BM Rec. Center then put together a stellar application that was quickly approved. Additional funding will need to be secured to bring this project to fruition; however, this grant is an enormous step towards seeing the outdoor fitness court completed. Congratulations Lander, we look forward to seeing this new addition to your community.

Other communities within the region are currently being considered.

Elko recently had an NFC Health Fitness Court constructed in Angel Park – feel free to go over and get in a few reps while you’re in town!

SSR Mining: Valmy Expansion Overview & Request for Feedback

SSR Mining recently presented an overview of the Marigold Mine and Valmy Expansion project to Lander County Commissioners and officials. SSR Mining is eager to keep residents informed about the Marigold Mine, as it is the third largest employer in Lander County. The mine has been in production since 1927, and has produced 4 million ounces of gold doré since 2020. The community has been enriched by consistent donations and scholarship provisions from the mine. Adherence to strong environmental standards is at the forefront of project goals.

Battle Mountain General Hospital Update

Board of Trustees
As we cheer on the new year and the opportunity of growth, BMGH is excited to welcome Paula Tomera and Mike Chopp to the Hospital Board of Trustees.

Their service will be essential and valuable as the Hospital District continues its positive path of improvement.  Along with the addition of these Trustees, the following were approved for the board leadership positions: James Matheus, Chair; Marla Sam, Vice Chair; Lyle Farr, Secretary.

Ranked 39th in the Nation
Becker’s Hospital Review recently published the top 50 rural hospitals in the country with the best margins.  BMGH came in 39th out of approximately 1800 rural hospitals.  We are blessed to have a very strong mining industry in Lander County that adds great value to the hospital and the community.  Through good planning, strong budgeting and close financial management, BMGH has been able to set net proceeds of mining funds aside for capital expenditure projects to keep our facilities and medical equipment up to date.

Our construction project continues to move forward through the first phase which includes the expansion and remodel of the hospital admission offices and entry, laboratory, emergency department and the addition of private acute rooms.  We appreciate your patience as our operational workflow has changed.  Though the construction process can be difficult, our commitment is to provide great care to those that need our services.

In an effort to expand and improve the outlet of hospital information, a new Instagram account has been established to be in unison with our Facebook account.  The Instagram account name is battlemountain_generalhospital.  The goal is to provide needed and valuable health related information as well as hospital updates and news.  We hope that you will utilize Facebook and Instagram for your hospital information.
