Dear  <<First Name>>,

Feeling frustrated after the Buckingham Board of Supervisors threw us under the bus yet again? Not only did they vote on Monday to allow [make legal the formerly illegal] commercial core drilling; there will be no required recording or oversight! Unlike drilling for a water well or a drain field, which require permits, and recording for the rest of us. They just let industry run right over them... Very disappointing. Grrrrrr.

Vent your frustrations by Taking Action! We have some polite, nonviolent actions for you! With the help from our very smart friends, we have crafted legislation asking for a moratorium for gold mining in Virginia. Gold mining is on par with uranium mining - its that big and that bad. We ask you to:
  • Call & write your delegate to ask them to co-patron HB2213 with Delegate Guzman
  • Send an action letter to the House Rules Committee asking them for support

And one more - sign on to make water a human right.

Calling all Villagers. Let's slog on! Thank you!

Urge them to support HB2213 – Delegate Guzman’s gold mining-related legislation

Glory be to Delegate Elizabeth Guzman, who is carrying our bill, HB2213, to ensure that the impacts of commercial gold mining to air, water, and public health are studied before permits, if any, are issued for commercial gold mines.  Please call and email your delegate to urge them to support/co-sponsor this bill!

Go to our
TAKE ACTION page for how to reach your delegate and senator; a sample script, along with resources to share with your representatives to educate them on the issue.

All hands on deck! Your voice does matter! Action brings rewards!

Urge the House Rules Committee to support HB2213!

Why this is important:

Exploratory drilling for gold in Virginia is happening as we speak, and went on for years without the knowledge of the local community.  Commercial gold mining is extremely toxic and a threat to the health, water, and air of communities across Virginia, and is currently threatening Union Hill and Buckingham County, who already had to endure being targeted for the now-canceled Atlantic Coast Pipeline.

House Bill 2213, which would establish a moratorium on permits for commercial gold mining until a study of all the dangers of gold mining is completed, is crucial to protect Virginia communities and is currently referred to the House Rules Committee.

Please Take Action! Send a letter to House Rules Committee members urging them to support HB2213 today!

We Support The Human Right to Water Resolution (HJ 538)

The realities of the COVID-19 pandemic have exacerbated and amplified the critical importance of water as a quality of life issue. In some cases, access to drinking water may be the difference between sickness and health, or life and death. Now more than ever, Virginians need a law guaranteeing the right to safe, affordable water without discrimination, prioritizing water for personal and domestic use, and identify the responsibilities of public officials at the state level. The Human Right to Water Resolution (HJ538) is the first step to ensure public access and affordability of water for residents of our Commonwealth.
