What's Up This Week

Back to School PTA Meeting 6:30pm

This week is the second PTA Meeting. We will be voting on the new budget, which you can download from the site. PTA laws require a quorum to carry the budget forward so come see what we have planned for the new school year. We promise to keep it short and sweet. We will be there at 6pm if you need to sign up for the PTA or buy some new Spirit Wear.

Clubs @ Stoneleigh

Stoneleigh is pleased to offer several after-school activities for our children. TRC Clubs are sponsored by the Towson Rec and offer excercise, STEM, and music clubs in both the morning and the afternoon. For more information check out the flyer. To register, head to the registration page on the TRC site. Registrations are open now and close 9/12. Any questions? Email Krista Collier at TRC.

The Stoneleigh Language Clubs are PTA sponsored and begin October 5th. This year, we are pleased to offer Spanish, French, Chinese, and German for our students. Registration forms must be mailed and postmarked no earlier than 9/19. The registration form will be posted on the site in the next week so keep an eye out for it. In the meantime, read about our amazing language teachers and see the schedule here. For more information, contact Farida Malecki.

Donations & Membership

The Stoneleigh PTA is an entirely volunteer-run organization. Your participation, membership, and donations help us provide additional support to the school, advocacy for children, and events to enrich the student body. We couldn't do it without you.

If you have not joined, we encourage you to do so. You can join two ways.
  • Go to join.myschoolanywhere.com, enter the code SESPTADIRECTORY and follow the prompts to add/confirm your data and then head to the store to purchase your membership and make a donation.
  • Download the Membership Form and submit it to the office in an envelope clearly marked "PTA Membership". You can send it in with your child.
Thank you for your continued support!
This Week's Spotlight

Why a foreign language?
  • Numerous studies show that speaking a second language boosts cognitive, memory, and listening skills.
  • Introducing children to alternative ways of expressing themselves and to different cultures generally broadens their outlook.
  • In addition to developing a lifelong ability to communicate with more people, children may derive other benefits from early language instruction, including improved overall school performance and problem-solving skills.
  • Experts agree that kids should begin to learn a foreign language from a young age; the younger, the better.
  • Parent Magazine lists “6 foreign languages kids should learn” in a 2012 article. The article names Spanish, French, Chinese, Italian, German, and American Sign Language as top languages kids should learn.
Language Clubs are coming! Stay tuned!
