First outputs from the SERISS project now available

Synergies for Europe’s Research Infrastructures in the Social Sciences (SERISS) brings together Europe's leading social science research infrastructures to address key challenges in cross-national research, break down barriers between infrastructures and embrace the future of social research. The aim is to ensure social science infrastructures can play a major role in addressing the key challenges facing Europe today. Project deliverables can be downloaded here

Survey Experts Network: Representing the population in surveys

The first of four SERISS Survey Experts Network workshops was devoted to sampling challenges in cross-national surveys. The aim of the workshops is to bring together survey practitioners and researchers to exchange knowledge and practices in survey research.

European Social Sciences Electronic Thesaurus (ELSST)

Lorna Balkan, UKDA, CESSDA AS

The ELSST has been developed to enable users of cross-national data collections to perform multilingual searches to retrieve information. As part of SERISS, researchers from CESSDA member archive, the UKDA, are carrying out work to evaluate and improve the translation of ELSST’s index and search terms.

Collecting Biomarkers in social surveys: Dried blood spots in SHARE

As part of the SERISS project, researchers from SHARE ERIC are exploring the legal, ethical and practical issues associated with the collection and storage of biomarkers cross-nationally. They hope to develop strategies for the inclusion of biological samples in population-based social surveys.

European Research Infrastructures in the International Landscape (RISCAPE)

ESS ERIC and CESSDA AS are project partners in a new Horizon 2020 project, RISCAPE. Its objective is to provide systematic, focused, high quality, comprehensive, consistent and peer-reviewed international landscape analysis reports for major European research infrastructures across all scientific domains.

CESSDA AS
To find out more about CESSDA, their activities and plans for the future, the CESSDA Annual Report 2015 was published in October 2016. Read more

ESS ERIC
A cumulative file including survey data from all seven rounds of the ESS is now available. Over 100,000 registered users can view or download the data. Read more

EVS
An updated version of the EVS 2008 Integrated Dataset including data and documentation of 46 countries/regions is now available. Read more

GGP
GGP has received Horizon 2020 funding for 2017-2019, allowing them to plan and initiate a new round of data collection. Read more

SHARE ERIC

The first release of SHARE Wave 6 data is planned for spring 2017, after data collection for Wave 7 has begun - for the first time in 28 countries. Read more

WageIndicator
WageIndicator’s online Cost of Living Survey and living wage calculations are now available for 90 countries. Read more

SERISS Training Course
24-25 April 2017
The second SERISS training course - Sampling, Weighting and Estimation in Survey Methodology - will take place at the University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. 25 participants will be taught by experts from GESIS - Leibniz Institute for the Social Science, Mannheim

16-18 March 2017
SERISS will be well represented at the 2017 Cross-cultural Survey Design and Implementation Workshop (CSDI) with presentations on national sample frames, the Translation Management Tool, CRONOS and tools for automated socio-economic coding.

GGP User Conference 2017
6-7 July 2017
The 4th GGP User Conference will be held in Berlin. This international conference aims to bring together researchers working with data from the Generations and Gender Survey and the GGP Contextual Database, and invites them to present and discuss their most recent methodological approaches and empirical findings. Abstracts for the conference can be submitted from February 2017
