On the Tides of the Thames
Recently, Anna Hill met with legendary Thames Bargemaster, Edwin 'Ted' Hunt. Ted shared many stories about his history working on the Thames and his impeccable knowledge of the water.
From his beginnings as a 15 year old apprentice to his father in 1935, Ted's career in the water spanned over forty years and he well remembers the Thames teeming with life. In his day, the Thames held 7,000 active barges and hundreds of row boats.
Ted spoke with Anna about the obviously under-utilised potential of the Thames as a source of renewable energy. The tide rises and falls up to six metres twice each day and yet there is currently nothing harnessing this energy.
The Thames Deckway has the power to change this, as it would harness the tide, the sun and the wind all together to produce clean, green energy.
Keep an eye out for the video of Ted's interview coming out soon on our social media!
