February 2016

Dear <<First Name>>,

In February, with Valentine's Day, we take time to be good to ourselves, to celebrate with our loved one, and also to stand in solidarity with women facing violence around the world.  We treat ourselves with two "The Better Me!" worshops - Voice Activation and How to Accessorize. We celebrate with our loved one with an Ayurvedic Cooking Class for Couples, and we stand in solidarity with women suffering from violence by dancing and rising on Valentine's Day with One Billion Rising! at the Brandenburger Tor. We also will talk about violence against women in our Book Club and on our Issue Debate (see all info below).

I am happy to announce 3 new activities this month - Yoga, Walk & Talk in German and Philosophy Club. See their information below and join your fellow members in opening your body and mind to new impulses. We also have a new activity for our men to get together - "Boys Night Out" once a month. Thanks to Becky Duke, Corinne Wilhelm, Alexandra Pearl and Jennifer Cripe for their initiative in starting these new activities.

If you have some time, I would really appreciate help in coordinating activities. Looking for coordinators for the following:
- Excursions (quarterly)
- Walking Tours (every other month)
- Creative Pursuits Workshops (every other month)
- "The Better Me" Workshops (every other month)
Description of the activities here: http://www.awcberlin.org/activities/

As Activity Coordinator, you don't have to think of activity ideas all on your own, or even be there on the day (there are lots of ideas and contacts, and someone could manage the group on the day if you can't be there). You would make sure that there is something planned based on the schedule and take RSVPs - for example, make sure that we have an excursion every quarter, or a walking tour every other month ... etc.  Please email me at president@awcberlin.org - and we'll talk it through. I promise it's not time consuming.

Berlin hosts two big events in February - the Berlin Fashion Week and the Berlinale Film Festival - I hope you have the opportunity to experience some of the fun around town.

For some with children in school, I wish you a lovely Winter Break next week (we are having a family-friendly cultural outing on Monday - do join us with your children if you are in town).

xo,
My-Linh

FAWCO Update

Planning your teen's summer - consider applying for the The FAWCO Youth Cultural Volunteers Program. The Program is designed to foster cultural awareness and volunteerism among FAWCO youths (that's our children). FAWCO kids aged 15 - 18 will be hosted by FAWCO families (Host Club members' families) for a week, and will experience a new culture while volunteering with local charities, working side-by-side with local teens.

The fourth FAWCO Youth Cultural Volunteers Program will take place in Dublin, Ireland from June 7-12, 2016. If your teen still has school then, FAWCO will provide a letter describing the program to get your school's permission to attend. Sometimes the school would even give community service credits. This program is open to FAWCO teens between the ages of 15-18. The application period will begin in February 2016. Stay tuned for further announcements.

The program will introduce the group to some of the sights and sounds of Dublin, and the teens will be introduced to Ireland’s structure of volunteering and the underlying needs.

To see information about past programs, please click here FAWCO YOUTH CULTURAL VOLUNTEERS.
