December 2015

Given the tragedies happening around the world, I count my blessings every day for my life here in Berlin. Besides being healthy and secure, I am thankful for knowing many of you and being inspired by the things you do. I am thankful for the empowering community we are building with the AWC and hope that it will continue to flourish.  Happy Thanksgiving!

Even though December is a short month, the AWC has many activities planned for you in the first 3 weeks. We hope to see you at at least one of our Special Holiday Events - the daytime Holiday Cookie & Ornament Exchange and the Holiday Concert Evening (open to guests). The Holiday Concert Evening is subsidized 10€ per member as a thank you from the Club, please see below for details.

November 25th marks the beginning of the global 16-Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence Campaign. The international campaign originated from the first Women's Global Leadership Institute -Participants chose the dates November 25- International Day Against Violence Against Women- and December 10- International Human Rights Day- in order to symbolically link violence against women and human rights and to emphasize that such violence is a violation of human rights. The AWC Berlin participates in the global campaign with our book club discussion Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity and our participation in the BBC 100 Women's Debate about the role of women in the 21st Century. We also continue to raise funds for Free the Girls, providing economic empowerment to sex-trafficking survivors.  I encourage you to have your own conversations within your circles. Click here to read FAWCO's Human Rights for Women Bulletin - full of information and ideas.

I will see some of you at the Thanksgiving Luncheon this week (not too late to sign up here), and hopefully, some time in December.  Have a beautiful holiday season!
