February 2017

Dear <<First Name>>,

The thing I like most about the AWC Berlin is that there is something for everyone. If you are interested in activism, you would have joined me last week in the Women's March. I am normally not a political person and the AWC Berlin is non-partisan and non-political.  But I am an activist for the fundamental human rights to liberty, equality and justice - and that's why I went, and my AWC sisters were there. This month, we will participate in two related global movements to bring awareness to violence against women: One Billion Rising! we'll dance at the Brandenburg Gate on February 14th and V-Day with a benefit performance of Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues on February 24th & 25th. Please spread the word to your friends. You could also further empower yourself with our Practical Self-Defense workshop (see all details below).

On the lighter side, we have a tour of the Schloss Bellevue, the Presidential Palace, and daytime writing club, book club, coffee club, music and museum visits and in the evening: wine tasting, cocktails and comedy, dining out, evening out, bowling, movie night ... there is really something for everyone.

And if you have more ideas for activities, please write me or 1st VP Becky Duke at

I look forward to seeing you soon!

With love,

My-Linh Kunst

Invitation to Evening General Meeting

The AWC Berlin General Meeting takes place monthly.  The meeting features club updates and a guest speaker.  Guests are invited to attend only one general meeting before joining the Club.

Our speakers this month are internet sensation twin brothers Matthew & Michael Youldon. Based in Berlin, The SuperPolyglotBros have a passion for all things languages. Together they currently speak 9 languages fluently, have learned over 10 languages together and have knowledge of over 20 languages.  So when it comes to making a resolution to learn a language – and how to stick to it – we’d want to hear their advice. They will also talk to us about how to learn a language in a week (they learned Turkish in a week).
They have been often in the media – check out their media appearances
Members will receive invitation per Evite.
Non-members – 10 Euro donation to our Charity Fund at the door. Please RSVP to by February 12th, 2017.

When: Thursday, February 16, 2017
Where: Kreativ Haus, Fischerinsel 3, 10179 Berlin (free parking in front of building, U2 to Märkisches Museum).
RSVP: Invitation will be sent by Evite.

Special Event:
Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues

You and your guests are invited to enjoy the AWC Berlin Production of the Vagina Monologues, directed by Molly Moylan Brown. The Vagina Monologues is an enduring, humorous, and deeply moving experience for performers and audiences alike, that motivates and supports grassroots educational efforts to change social attitudes towards the treatment of women.

Playwright and activist Eve Ensler’s The Vagina Monologues was first performed in NYC in 1994. On Valentine’s Day in 1998, V-DAY – a global movement to end violence against women and girls – was established, with The Vagina Monologues as its cornerstone. Each February, Ensler shares her vision of such a violence-free world by giving groups around the globe rights to produce her play. This episodic work, based on scores of interviews Ensler conducted with women from a large cross-section of society, addresses women’s sexuality, in particular the social stigma around rape and abuse, by engendering a new and vital conversation about and with women. Now in its 19th year, there have been almost 6000 annual V-DAY events produced worldwide.

Raise your voice and join us on February 14th, 5-6 pm at the Brandenburg Gate! One Billion Rising was and is the largest global action to end violence against women in history. At its heart is a devastating statistic: One in three women worldwide will experience gender-based violence in her lifetime.
The inaugural One Billion Rising in 2013 was a call to action, summoning women and men across the planet to react, to break the silence and refuse to passively accept the unacceptable status quo. One Billion Rising called on the world to take to the streets on one day, Valentine’s Day, V-Day, to do something radical: Strike, rise, dance!

Here in Berlin, we will meet at the
Brandenburg Gate and dance our hearts out for about an hour.  Meet at the entrance to the US Embassy at 5pm (not the official Pariser Platz 2 entrance but the entrance with the Berliner Bear Statue of Liberty, across from the Holocaust Memorial – corner of Ebertsstrasse & Behrenstrasse).

For more information, read AWC Berlin’s blog post with lots of links on One Billion Rising by Allegra Silbiger as part of our participation in the 16-Day-Campaign to end Gender Based Violence. RSVP to My-Linh at so we know to expect you.

We are a vibrant group of women of all ages and our members come from not only the USA but from other countries around the world. Please spread the word and invite your friends to join!

Cooking for Ronald McDonald House -  Thursday, February 9th 5pm -6:30pm. Every quarter, we cook dinner for the families staying at the Ronald McDonald House Berlin (RMDH).
