June 2016

Dear <<First Name>>,

Happy Summer! June is my favorite month because the days are long, outdoor pools and beaches in Berlin begin their season and the promise of a long lazy summer lies ahead. It's also my birthday month, I'm at the age now where I do think about where I am and where I would like to be a year from now.  Not so much new year's resolutions, rather hopes for the future which, in my case, usually turn into to-do lists.

Some of you have asked me how do you do it? where do you find the energy to do all these things, be at all these places, you must have a clone! Your questions baffle me a bit because I find it ... easy! I GET energy from all these "things" that I do.

I receive this positive energy because of my passion for these "things". It may sound hokey, how can I be passionate about coffee mornings or a book club. :-) but yes, the narrative is consistent - it guides my volunteer, artistic and professional choices. I love connecting people, I believe in women empowerment and development, and I care about human rights for women.  So I volunteered to rebuild our Club - a community of caring and thinking women, I use my art (photography) to support the causes that matter to me, and in business, I support women to become the leaders that they are meant to be.

Speaking of art and causes, in June I begin my photography project "Portraits of Hope" - portraying survivors and change-makers in the sex-trafficking trade in the Netherlands. It's for the FAWCO Symposium on Human Trafficking. Club members are invited, so let me know if you'd like to join me for the weekend event.

To quote Eleanor Roosevelt, "You must do the thing that you think you can't do".  What is your "thing"? Go out and do it, I'll be right behind you.

FAWCO Update

Congratulations to Anna Sheehan (Linda Sheehan's daughter) who has been accepted to the FAWCO Youth Cultural Volunteers Program 2016. Hosted by AWC Dublin, she will spend one week in Dublin in June with other teens from FAWCO clubs around the world, to learn about charities and volunteerism in Ireland and of course, take in the sights and sounds of the host country.
