November Lunch Talk: Sexual violence, gendered economies, and risky subjects

November 3, 2022
Jeffries Hall 1060 @ Noon
What are the real costs of gender violence? The World Bank, WHO, and others have attempted to measure macroeconomic effects. Gender violence impacts microfinancing, lending, public budgets, and survivors' economic well-being. Drawing on select cases from India, Dr. Debotri Dhar from LSA's Department of Women's and Gender Studies, asks what we might learn about violence, vulnerability, and risk by studying rape victims’ suicides. How can we ask more nuanced questions around financial inclusion, legal challenges, and policy shifts as they pertain to sexual violence survivors and the state to empower women? Register for Dr. Dhar's talk here. The talk will be held in-person at Jeffries Hall, Room 1060.
