"...even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do."
Colossians 3:13 NKJV
Let’s talk about forgiveness. You know that one form of act required by Christians that a lot of us struggle to do. Why is it so hard to forgive? Better question, why should you forgive those who hurt you, who lie on you, cheat on you, disrespects you, abused you, breaks your heart, etc.? The last thing you are concerned about is forgiving them, because you are too busy waiting for karma to deal with them. Well for one, it is written in God’s word; actually more than once to forgive, so it must be important to do.
“bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
Colossians 3:13 NKJV.
“And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.” Ephesians 4:32 NKJV.
We all know it is not easy to forgive someone, trust me I struggled in that area and anyone who tells you it’s easy and simple is a liar! Forgiveness takes maturity and the strength from God Himself. One thing about forgiveness is that it sets you free. See the world portrays forgiveness as letting the person off easy and accepting what they did to you. Well today I am letting you know those are all lies to keep you and I stuck. Forgiveness is showing mercy to others, showing the growth of Christ in you. It is not about letting the person off the hook, it’s an act of obedience as well to show God that as He forgives you, you are able to forgive others. Picture this: what if God treated forgiveness towards you as you treat it towards others? Do you not think that your sins and disobedience hurts Him? Jesus came for you and died on the cross for your sins so that you will have a way to heaven EVEN while knowing you would have some slip ups and sin. Still, when you go into prayer and repent asking for forgiveness, he gives it without second thinking because His mercies are new every morning!
"The faithful love of theLordnever ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness;
his mercies begin afresh each morning." Lamentations 3:22-23
There is one man in the bible portraying the perfect example of forgiveness and that man’s name is Jesus. In Luke 23:34, Jesus is looking past Himself and asking for forgiveness for the people, “Then Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they do.” Now if we are to be Christ-like, we can no longer have a mindset of the world but like Jesus and forgive, even when it hurts. What messes us up in truly forgiving is that we try to act on our own strength. We try to forgive others working in the flesh, when we are supposed to be working and living in the Spirit. Our flesh will say we forgive but then still want some type of revenge. When we forgive while operating in the Spirit we are allowing God to come and work in us. He will then give us an understanding on why we ought to forgive and give us freedom from the person. Remember that Jesus came so that we can be free, even when it comes to forgiveness. So why is it so hard to forgive when we expect God to forgive us every single time we mess up? According to scripture, we are expected to forgive those who sin against us and hurt us, just as our Father forgives us. It will take time, but through Christ all things are possible. He will help you get there with prayer and a willing heart. Let God change your perspective on forgiveness as a way to be closer to Him, to be set free, and to move on in life. Remember God has the last say and He will take care of the rest after you pass the first step and forgive.
Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay,” says the Lord.
God loves you unconditionally and if you are hurt, it did not go unnoticed by Him. Trust in Him and lean not on your OWN understanding. Now let today be the last day you hold any unforgiveness in your heart. Take it to God!
Then Peter came to Him and said, “Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? Up to seven times?” Jesus said to him, “I do not say to you, up to seven times, but up to seventy times seven.

Prayer starter: Father God, thank you for your grace and your mercy, thank you for your forgiveness Father. I pray in Jesus name that if there is any unforgiveness sitting in my heart; remove it by showing me how to forgive those who have hurt me. And forgive me Lord for trying to do it all on my own, I want to truly forgive God, if you can forgive me, I know I must forgive as well. Even when it hurts, God, I know your strength will help me. I want to be free, show me the way Father...
