Why Intellectual Virtues Academy?

Relationship Based. Personalized Academic Plan.

Our credentialed teachers love learning and make the classroom a fun, yet challenging place to explore. We know our students and support their passions and pursuits inside, as well as beyond the classroom. We offer a small learning community that provides a safe environment for students to be curious, celebrate mistakes and ask for help. Our college and career planning begins in 9th grade with a personalized academic plan designed with the guidance of our college counselor.

Sports, Arts and Extra-Curricular Activities

The Academy is committed to offering athletics, arts, and a rich blend of extracurricular activities to all students. Because the Academy is a smaller school, students will have numerous opportunities to participate and serve as leaders. Our athletes compete in CIF, club, and intramural sports. We also partner with community organizations to bring exciting and innovative experiences to our student body. As we finalize these partnerships, we will you update you.

Challenging Curriculum

The Academy’s unique educational approach provides engaging and challenging learning opportunities – through honors, AP, college prep, or intervention courses, open to ALL students – as a way of helping students grow as critical and creative thinkers. Students will be equipped with the knowledge, skills, and “habits of mind” needed for success in college, careers, and beyond.

We believe technology inspires innovative teaching, nurtures all learning styles, and creates unique opportunities to connect our students with their community. Students use technology frequently as a tool for research, writing and collaboration.

The Academy practices a “culture of thinking,” teaching students how to think rather than what to think. A highly engaging approach provides them with supported opportunities to grow. We believe that this personalized approach allows us to better integrate inquiry- and project-based learningWe provide students with the opportunity to apply critical thinking skills to real-life problems.
