HEADLINES
- WeWork founder Adam Neumann received a record-breaking check from Andreessen Horowitz with somewhat vague plans to shake up the massive market for rental apartments, injecting a jolt into the venture investment market for PropTech. MetaProp's Safi Aziz broke down the mysterious business in a two-part series here (Part 1) and here (Part 2).
- Big investors like Bain Capital and Redwood Trust are buying up stakes in Americans' homes and plan to 'revolutionize' how people tap into a record $27.8 trillion in home equity.
- Bridger Aerospace, a Montana-based provider of aerial firefighting and wildfire surveillance services, agreed to go public via Jack Creek Investment Corp. (Nasdaq: JCIC), a SPAC formed by KSH Capital. The deal values Bridger at an implied $869 million.
- Redfin’s latest July report highlights this: just 44.3% of nationwide home offers written by Redfin agents faced competition last month, compared to a revised rate of 50.9% in June and 63.8% in July 2021. The report says that competition has cooled, due to many Americans being priced out of the market by higher mortgage rates and inflation, so properties are staying on the market longer and sellers are being forced to reduce prices.
- Urban Innovation Fund has raised $121M to invest in startups shaping the future of cities! They closed $101M for Urban Innovation Fund III, along with a $20M opportunity fund.
