Dear Early Followers,
We hope this finds you well.  We are so happy to share our very first DietSensor newsletter with you.  What a thrill to see so many followers subscribing to our mailing list - we have so much to tell you!  This month has been chock full of good news and progress for the DietSensor project.  We launched our blog and social network pages on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter, we made huge progress on the food database development and advice engine, and most importantly, we received the CES Best of Innovation Award in New York City on November 10th, making DietSensor one of the most cutting edge tech products and services across 27 product categories to hit the market in 2016.  Our team is beyond excited – what an enormous honor.

New York, NY, November 10th, 2015:

DietSensor has been named a CES 2016 Best of Innovation Award Honoree in the Software and Apps category for “the first instant nutrition coach with sensors”.  This means that CES judges recognize DietSensor as one of the 20 most innovative products coming to the market in 2016.
Products entered in this prestigious program are judged by a preeminent panel of independent industrial designers, independent engineers, and members of the trade media to honor outstanding innovative design and engineering in some of the most cutting edge tech products and services across 27 product categories.

DietSensor will be exhibiting in Las Vegas in January. We will keep you posted.

DietSensor, the sleek, user-friendly nutrition tracking and coaching app, is made possible due to the first pocket, Bluetooth-connected molecular sensor named SCiO.  SCiO uses something called near infrared spectroscopy to determine the chemical makeup of food and drink.
How does it work? With the click of a button on the SCiO, a light is projected onto your food.  Every type of molecule in a given food vibrates in its own way, so the vibrations of the molecules interact with the light to create a unique, optical signature.  Spectrometers analyze what is in a substance based on how molecules interact with light.  This method has been used in labs throughout the world, but always with very large, expensive spectrometers.  DietSensor is now able to bring this technology to you.  When you scan a food item with the revolutionary, pocket-sized SCiO, the nutrition breakdown is immediately accessible on your DietSensor smartphone app.
We came up with the idea for DietSensor in 2014 when our 9-year-old daughter was diagnosed with type 1 juvenile diabetes.  We realized that our family’s struggle to estimate all carbohydrates and measure insulin - for a lifetime – was also the struggle for 38 million other people affected by type 1 diabetes.  Motivated by the dream of improving the lives of everyone affected by this disease, along with others who need to track information about what they eat due to type 2 diabetes, excess weight, or cardiovascular diseases, we left our respective jobs in order to launch this ambitious, worthwhile project.  We have deep gratitude for our early stage investors who trusted us from the onset and who have allowed us to make this idea a reality.

Our team is working hard to build SCiO’s engine with tens of thousands of spectrums needed to learn how to read the nutrient percentage in any type of homogeneous food.  It will take us several months to have an extensive nutrient recognition engine that works on main foods and beverages.
Our team, scanning cake and cereal.
We work very closely with the makers of SCiO, ConsumerPhysics, to achieve our ultimate goal – giving you the ability to scan and read the cells of any cooked food or beverage on your table, anywhere on earth!

Many of you have asked this question, and the answer is yes!  We don’t use a specific version of SCiO to run DietSensor.  If you already bought a SCiO, you will simply need to purchase the Premium Pack 1 (see homepage) directly in the app or on our website to access the DietSensor database with your SCiO.

Another team of engineers and health professionals is building the engine sophisticated enough to give you the right advice, tailored to your profile, your pathology (if needed), and what you ate that day and your habits by comparing your scans to your preset goals.  We will share more about this with you in an upcoming newsletter.

Our blog now features the DietSensor story, posts and newsletters, plus four topics related to nutrition:
Healthy eating,
Cardiovascular diseases,

SCiOs can be pre-ordered here. Just enter again at least your email address and check the box "I would like to pre-order my SCiO today". Even if the maker's production line is scaling up, there is still a waitlist. Ordering early will allow you to get it for an early bird price and to get it earlier (first in first served).
