Local Campaign for Grade-Level Reading Earns National Honors

We are proud to announce that the Delaware County Campaign for Grade Level Coalition has been recognized by the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading as one of 38 recipients nationally to receive Pacesetter Honors. United Way of Delaware County is the sponsoring organization for the Delaware County Coalition. Delaware County earned honors for not one, but two improvements in the categories of School Readiness and Overall Grade Level Reading. Our county was the only community in Indiana to receive honors.

The Pacesetter Honors recognizes communities who “lead by example” to solve challenges in areas that undermine literacy. It is among the highest awards presented by the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading.

Kudos go to our coalition partners and the tremendous strides they have made in this community-wide effort to improve childhood literacy. We must also commend our staff for their strategic thinking and hands-on approach through Reading Clubs. Many thanks to our Board Members who support the work we are doing in the community.

As our community’s sponsoring organization for the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading work, United Way of Delaware County:
  • has convened a coalition—to set a common goal, measure results, identify challenges and figure out how to overcome them together
  • runs reading clubs in four elementary schools
  • brought Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to our county to increase children’s access to books
  • funds programs that address challenges for grade-level reading success
  • is actively engaged and partnered with key coalition members including Muncie Community Schools and BY5
