Roadmap for return to Scouting - Version 4

Dear <<First Name>>

All of us in National Office have been planning, like groups around the country, for September and the new scout year. Board meetings, Core Team meetings,  Project Teams and staff have been meeting online every day.   In the last weeks our Corporate Services Department were delighted to welcome so many Groups and Scout Families in the national campsites. We know many groups are planning activities and meetings outdoors for September while also planning and making arrangements for indoor meetings. There are many challenges in getting ready and sometimes its not clear what is the best solution.   Our Program Department continue to provide ideas on scouting360.ie and we continue to  updated the roadmap after receiving the update guidance from DCYA and Education Authority NI. We do have updates  that Scouts in ROI  can meet indoors and outdoors with up to 15 people. Scouts in NI can meet outdoors with up to 15 people. Scouts in Co Kildare can also meet outdoors with up to 15 people but only 6 indoors. Please read the roadmap for details.

I was reminded yesterday by a group leader of the difference between two of the old merit badges- navigation (map reading) and pathfinder. Our Scouting Ireland Roadmap  only take us so far collectively and each version soon becomes out of date due to the changes in government advises. Like in our scouting training and programs we all need to challenge ourselves to be pathfinders - not dependent on maps but finding the right path for our circumstances.  Here in National Office staff and volunteers are working to support groups around the country however we all have to recognise that there may not be an exact map all the time. We work as scouts to face these challenges. You know how to provide program outdoors let’s keep providing this. Let’s get our beavers, cubs, scouts, ventures and rovers involved in outdoor programmes.

We will continue to support groups and develop advice for blended programme and training as a result of the changes we face. Further details will be sent in our future mailings to you.

Regards

Anne
