Happy Thanksgiving, parents!

I hope you are all enjoying your process of preparing for First Reconciliation and Communion.
The holiday season is a great time to talk about sacraments with your kids. Here are some ways you can do that:
  • Start praying the Big Three Prayers: the Our Father, the Hail Mary, and the Glory Be, and the Sign of the Cross. (Spoiler alert! When your child does their first Confession, the priest will ask them to do the Sign of the Cross at the beginning, and will probably assign the prayers as penance. Kids feel less anxious about the sacrament when they know the moves!)
  • Talk about the difference between sins, accidents, and mistakes. We’ll talk about these at our next family Zoom, too.
  • Talk about being sorry when you do something un-loving because love is why it matters if we sin, and why we want forgiveness when we do.
  • Talk about forgiveness; what it feels like to be forgiven, and to forgive. Use the word “Forgive” when you can.
  • Talk about God- pray together, and let your kid “catch” you pray.
  • Go to Mass, online (https://www.facebook.com/MQOASalem/live_videos - make it appointment viewing with your kids! Snuggle up on the couch and pray along.) or in person at our parking lot or indoor Masses: www.mqoa.org/worship
We pray that this time will be full of opportunities for everyone in your family to have a great experience of faith, and we pray blessings on you and yours, this Thanksgiving!

(While we have you, check out the fun family events coming up at MQOA in the next couple of weeks, and plan ahead to join your parish community for Christmas!)

In this email, you will find all the information you will need for this year! If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to email me at santonio@mqoa.org.

First Things First: Sunday Mass

Mass is central to living out our Catholic Faith; it is where we receive our life-giving bread and learn through Scripture and prayer. Join us in committing yourself and your families to attend Mass weekly to further your life long faith formation. Our community will walk with you on this journey and participate with you during Sunday Mass. We are committed to offering excellent liturgy, through beautiful music, inspiring homilies, and welcoming communities.

We ask for a commitment to attend Mass together regularly. On our part, we commit to improving your experience to be more inspiring, fulfilling, and uplifting. Mass is offered in-person and online.

Our community will walk with you on this journey. Sacramental Preparation brings both candidates and sponsors/parents to a deeper understanding of the life-long commitment that is made when receiving a Sacrament in the Catholic Church.

The Marriage Course

MQOA is bringing a new program from the team that brought us Alpha, The Marriage Course. The Marriage Course is a series of seven sessions, designed to help couples invest in their relationship and build a strong marriage.

The Marriage Course is for couples who are seeking to strengthen their relationship. Some couples do the course to intentionally invest in their relationship, others are looking to address more specific challenges. Either way, the course offers essential tools and practical ideas to help you build a relationship that lasts a lifetime. The Marriage Course is based on Christian principles but designed for all couples — with or without a church background.

Even though called the "Marriage Course", the course is designed for couples who have been together for at least two years, married or not.
